Island Hopping in the Philippines

I was with the Singelresor group visiting Cebu, Palawan and Manila for the new year celebration and needless to say, we really had a lot of fun 😍 Among the places we visited were Magellan´s cross in Cebu, the Puerto Princesa Underground River in Sabang, El Nido and Coron for our island hopping tours and Intramuros in Manila. Below are some pictures from our trip.

Lovely lunch during our island hopping tour in El Nido, Palawan.

San Agustin Church, Intramuros Manila

Farewell dinner at Barbara´s with wonderful dance show 👍

During our last day in Manila, I was able to visit the Grand Canal in Taguig which is a copy of the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy 😉

Conrad Manila 1-bedroom suite

We stayed an extra one night in Manila after the group left so I could meet my family and stayed at the beautiful Conrad Manila, my home in Manila 😍

NAIA Terminal 3

My flight for Hong Kong was scheduled to depart at 11am so I was at the airport around 9am.

Cathay Pacific First & Business Class Lounge

The Cathay Pacific First & Business Class Lounge is one of the two nicest lounges in Manila, the other one being the Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge 😍

Noodle Bar

While in the lounge, an announcement was made that our new departure time would be at 11:40am. Further delays were announced and finally, when the aircraft from Hong Kong arrived around 11:20am, boarding was then scheduled at 12pm.

Aircraft, Boeing 777 (B-HNE)

They were supposed to use an A350 on this flight so I was sort of disappointed they changed it to a Boeing 777 😉

Boarding, Gate 111

I left the lounge at 11:40am and headed my way to gate 111 where a lot of passengers were already waiting for boarding.

Around 11:53, boarding started, beginning with those flying in business class and those passengers with status.

Business Class Cabin

The business class cabin on Cathay Pacific´s Boeing 777 consists of 42 seats in a 2-3-2 configuration.

My seat 18A is a window seat

Already waiting at my seat was a pillow and a blanket.

Personal screen

Under the armrest is a storage space where the inflight magazines (wrapped in plastic) as well as the headphones are located.

Located on the side are the seat controls.

The seat does not turn into a fully flat bed although still perfect for short flights such as this one.

Headphone socket

Under the right armrest is the IFE controller.

To the right of my personal screen is a USB socket and a mobile phone holder I believe 😉

Inflight magazines, safety instruction card and air sickness bag

Unlike their A350s, this aircraft does not have wifi connection.

Below the personal screen is the foldable tray table.

Power ports are located in the middle of the 2 seats under the middle armrests.

From the movie selection, I ended up watching "Venom".

Predeparture Beverage

Around 12:10pm, a flight attendant came to my seat to offer some predeparture beverage with a choice of juice, water or champagne.

I settled for a glass of juice. A couple of minutes later, hot towels were offered.

Around 12:22pm, the captain came on the PA to welcome us onboard and to apologize for the delay due to late arrival of the aircraft. He also mentioned our flight time of 1 hour and 39 minutes.

Inflight Safety Video

Arrival cards were distributed, and at the same time, the inflight safety video was played on the screen. It was a busy time in NAIA and we were number 4 in queue to pushback. Around 12:40pm, the flight attendants came to distribute the menu card, addressing us by our names. The cabin supervisor also came on the PA to reassure connecting passengers that the ground staff in Hong Kong will help us fix alternative flights.

Airshow

Airshow enroute to Hong Kong

Around 12:56pm, we started pushback.

From my seat, I noticed this aircraft and suddenly remembered the Xiamen Air which skidded off the runway during landing causing lots of delays and flight cancellations.

Finally at 1:29pm, we had a smooth take off.

Champagne on board was Piper-Heidsieck NV Brut

Red wines and Dessert wine

Aperitifs and cocktails

The meal was served on a tray consisting of bread, fruits, dessert and a glass of water.

Drinks were offered moments later including some wines and I decided to have just a glass of apple juice. The main course was also served from another trolley and I opted for the salmon which was delicious 😋

To end the meal service, coffee and tea were offered and I opted for a cup of green tea.

Lavatory

Inside the lavatory were bottles of hand cream and face moisturizer.

Landing in Hong Kong Airport

Around 2:38pm, the captain came on the PA to give us updated flight information and that we would be landing at 3:10pm, which confirmed that I would be missing my connecting flight to London Heathrow which was scheduled to depart at 3:10pm.

Airshow enroute to Hong Kong

We landed in Hong Kong Airport around 3:12pm and reached our gate 6 minutes later.

CONCLUSION

Being originally booked in Premium Economy, I can´t complain about the upgrade to Business Class. I already had access to their lounge and had priority boarding as a One World Emerald member so the extras I got was the real business class seat, the meal and of course the attentive service 😉 However, it was disappointing to have such a delay since I missed my connecting flight to London and had to wait for 8 hours in Hong Kong for the alternative flight to Stockholm via Amsterdam. Still, I felt Cathay Pacific did a good job in handling such delays especially when most flights back to Europe are full. Will I fly Cathay Pacific again? Definitely yes! They are one of the best airlines in the world ... and they know how to deal with mistake fares the right way 😉 PS: Looking forward to my flight with them in first class in August 😍😍
