Character Analysis – Smeagol/Gollum

Smeagol: No! Not master.
Gollum: Yes precious. First they cheat you, hurt you, LIE.
Smeagol: Master’s my friend!.
Gollum: You don’t have any friends, nobody likes you!
Smeagol: I’m not listening, I’m not listening.
Gollum: You’re a liar and a thief.
Smeagol: No!
Gollum: Murderer.
Smeagol: Go away!
Gollum: Go away?

Fun fact: I do a great Gollum impression. I do the personality switch and everything. Other fun fact: I also love taters. In celebration of the release of Tolkien, written by our beloved member David Gleeson, I thought it would be fun to dive into one of Tolkien’s most famous characters, Smeagol/Gollum. I just love how this character is portrayed in the LotR trilogy, and mixture of emotions I feel when I watch him on screen. He’s innocent, wicked, childish, loving… really he’s everything a villain and a hero should be. For a full analysis of one of the coolest and creepiest characters to have hit the big screen I’m sharing a great article.
