The Chhattisgarh government is set to embark on an ambitious project to enhance international air connectivity by constructing an Aerocity near the Swami Vivekananda Airport in Nava Raipur, the upcoming capital of the state. This visionary endeavour aims to elevate passenger amenities and commercial infrastructure to meet global standards while simultaneously creating job opportunities for the local population.

The proposed Aerocity will be situated in Layer 3 of Atal Nagar in Nava Raipur, covering a sprawling area of 216.63 acres in the villages of Baroda and Ramchandi. The project will be executed in phases, with the initial phase encompassing approximately 24.85 acres. Notably, 15.45 acres of this land is owned by the state government.

Commercial and Hospitality Ventures

In line with the development plan, the project envisages the allocation of four commercial plots spanning from 0.62 acres to 3.01 acres. Furthermore, it includes provisions for a shopping complex spanning 0.82 acres and designates 1.44 acres of land for a hotel. These facilities are anticipated to contribute to the overall appeal of the Aerocity.

Budget Allocation and Foundation Stone Laying

To kickstart this transformative initiative, the state government has allocated approximately INR 2 Crore in the budget for the fiscal year 2023–24. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the project on September 19, 2023, signalling the commencement of this significant development.

Future Plans for Enhanced Connectivity

As part of the broader vision, the Chhattisgarh government intends to submit a proposal to the Union government, seeking approval for the construction of a second runway at the Swami Vivekananda Airport.
