A Vietjet flight en route from Ho Chi Minh City to Brisbane, Australia made an unscheduled yet safe landing in Darwin, Australia on Monday (local time) as an Australian passenger had a health problem and needed urgent medical treatment.
After being notified of a male passenger, born in 1954, developing a health problem, crew members checked his health conditions, provided first aid, and decided to land at Darwin International Airport in the namesake city so that the passenger could receive prompt treatment.
The aircraft landed at 6:30 pm on Monday (local time) after four hours and 40 minutes of flying.
Vietjet coordinated with the Darwin International Airport authority to help the passenger reach the nearest medical center.
The passenger is now in stable condition. His family has sent their deep gratitude to the crew members.
After 50 minutes of refueling, the flight resumed its journey from Darwin at 7:20 pm and landed safely in Brisbane at 9:55 pm on the same day (local time).
The flight captain said, “During my tens of thousands of flying hours as a captain, I have always been emotional when my decisions can help passengers. My colleagues and I will always do our best to serve passengers who trust and choose to fly with Vietjet.”
This is not the first time that Vietjet has changed its flight schedules to save ill passengers.
The air carrier considers passengers’ health and safety the top priority even though changes in flight schedules are costly and affect other services, it said.
