The Australian Arab Association hosted its Australia Day BBQ and community celebrations in Thornlie this afternoon.

Close to a hundred residents in the area came to Glennbrook Park to participate in an afternoon of community performances, food, and bouncy castles for children.

Multicultural performances, including pipe bands, drums, and music, were featured on stage to entertain the attendees.

This event has been held on Australia Day by the Australian Arab Association every year for the past several years.

Perth’s Arab community reveals their appreciation for Australia, celebrating the values and stability this country offers in an uncertain world.

AAA’s Community Director, Hissen Marouff, says their event’s goal is to unite the community and show appreciation for their Australian home country.

“We appreciate this country that we live in, and we’re grateful to live in a country that has freedom,” she said.

“Freedom of speech, free education, healthcare system—everything we appreciate to live in this country.

“(This event) It’s something that we like to give back to the community to show them that on this day, and every day, we’re grateful.

“It means security that they’ve been granted access to live in a safe country.

“They’re not going to be kicked out anytime; they’re going to have the security of being in their home; they found a home (in Australia).”
