A THY Turkish Airlines Airbus A319-100, registration TC-JLT performing flight TK-1877 from Istanbul (Turkey) to Milan Malpensa (Italy) with 115 passengers, was climbing out of Istanbul's runway 35L when the crew stopped the climb at FL100 reporting a lightning strike and returned to Istanbul for a safe landing on runway 05 about 13 minutes after departure. There were no injuries, the aircraft received substantial damage however.

A replacement Airbus A319-100 registration TC-JLU reached Milan with a delay of 75 minutes.
