AT-KABUL: The newly appointed commissioners for the electoral complaints commission are set to start their works on Tuesdayin all provinces, the commission said Monday.

They are planned to start work while the complaints commission has only four days ahead to announce the end of assessing electoral complaints.

The commission’s spokesman, AlirezaRouhani told a presser that presidential palace was late to send back the list of commissioners the commission had sent for confirmation as the reason of delay in the announcement of their names.

The new commissioners are also to get trained in a one-day course to get familiar with their new jobs.

“27 of the commissioners were already confirmed by the president and the rest of the list are confirmed this week,” said Rouhani, adding that totally 102 commissioners would work in the provinces.

Five permanent and three temporary commissioners including a woman should be assigned for each province, according to the electoral law. But the commission said in some provinces where women could not be found, men were assigned.

The free and fair election forum welcomed the assignment of the new commissioners, but said it was too late for them to assess electoral complaints.

“Unfortunately, the electoral complaints commission failed to arrange its works based on the law and the delay in assigning of these commissioners is an example,” said NaeimAsghari, head of the forum.

The electoral complaints commission has so far received 800 complaints and said that probably some of the candidates who were included in the initial list be disqualified and some of candidates who were disqualified, be included the next list.
