PNG LNG fears played down as critical talks loom
Fears of a multi-year delay to a $US12 billion-$US14 billion expansion of liquefied natural gas in Papua New Guinea under the Pacific nation's new government have been overblown and a go-ahead for construction is still likely in the second half of 2020, according to a global LNG expert.
FACTS Global Energy chairman Fereidun Fesharaki, who is in in close contact with the PNG government, has told clients that new PNG Prime Minister James Marape is well aware of the importance of LNG to the future of the PNG economy and is not looking to chase investors away.
