Use these soft, water-soluble pastels to create beautiful watercolor effects. Simply make a sketch with Neocolor II pastels, then sprinkle it with water and allow the colors to dilute. Use a brush to pick up colors and paint as though with watercolors. You can also draw on moistened paper for a wash and varnish effect. Neocolor II Artists' Pastels have a high pigment concentration that results in bright, opaque colors, suitable for many techniques on dry or wet paper. Neocolor II water-soluble wax pastels are a product of Caran d'Ache innovation. They combine the expertise of a color specialist with the great ''Swiss Made'' tradition. Neocolor II wax pastels are exceptional, both for their quality and the techniques they make possible. I love my other Caran D'ache supplies but have never tried pastels. I do love watercolor pencils, so I wanted to try them. They are so much fun!They are like the smoothest crayon you can imagine. They are so silky smooth that it feels like they could draw on your skin (but they don't).My favorite way to use them is with this palette, also by Caran D'ache. One side is textured so you can color on it with the pastels and use a water brush to paint with them. (You can use it with your wc pencils also).They dissolve well in water. They are slightly more opaquethan wc pencils, but still mostly translucent. Using the palette allows you to get every single bit of use out of them since you don't have to sharpen. They blend well. The tactile experience is really good! A tiny bit goes a long way also.I'm only using them for coloring books at the moment, and they are brilliant!I was able to get a "used, like new" set from the warehouse. The box was a bit dented and a few colors had been tested but nothing beyond that (they met my expectations perfectly). The advantage of getting a warehouse set, besides price, was that they were already here in The States, so it was very fast shipping. I am extremely happy with my purchase.(I'm not sure why folks struggled to find the second tray of colors and thought they were cheated with the wrong package. But I guess that is a thing so be sure to pull up the top tray to find the one below it )

My only nitpick is that they lift after 3 or 4 layers, but thats really small in the grand scheme. I was also surprised that I could get fine lines with them for fur texturing, I figured with how creamy they felt that thin lines would be impossible, but nope, nice fine lines. I previously tried the mungyo aquarelle, and these are vastly better, as well as being completely non toxic. If you're looking for water soluble pastels, treat yourself and get these, you won't be sorry
