Camden Airport has today introduced changes to its circuit curfew times to appease noise complainants in the local community.

As of today, pilots won’t be able to commence circuits at Camden until 0700, 45 minutes later than the previously allowed start time of 0615, while the cut-off time for night circuits on weekdays has been bought forward from 2300 to 2200. During the daylight saving period the finishing time has been reduced from 2300 to 2230.

For weekends the starting times for circuits have also been pushed back from 0615 to 0700, with the current finishing time of 2000 remaining unchanged.

Sydney Metro Airport Camden CEO Colin Grove said the changes mark a balanced measure in response to community concerns about aircraft noise.

“As an outcome of consultation from our Master Plan process, the airport has implemented a number of changes to aircraft operations to improve the conditions for the surrounding community,” he explained. “The measures have been delivered in consultation with the local aviation industry.

“This initiative follows on from the recent formation of the Camden Airport Community Aviation Consultation Group which held a productive discussion on the community’s concerns regarding aircraft noise. The group also provided an excellent opportunity to inform the community about the operational, commercial and regulatory issues facing the airport and our tenants.”

Despite these changes, and how they’ll affect training operations at Camden, Grove says the airport owner/operator isn’t working to marginalise its aviation tenants.

“The airport remains genuinely committed to striking a balance between the local community needs and airport operations,” Grove said. “This change is strong evidence of our willingness to both listen and act upon community concerns, whilst still maintaining the airport’s operational and commercial requirements.”
