Community Tasting Notes 3

October 7, 2023 - Medium purple wine with aromas of black fruits, vanilla, and violet. Medium flavor intensity of black fruits, dried herbs, oak, vanilla, and minerals. The dried herbs came back to create a long finish. Medium acidity with some dry tannins. Not bad for $10 😀

May 8, 2023 - Featuring notes of singed wood, violet, heather, herbs, dark berries and spices, this wine is driven by the structure. The wine is moderately, but not overly fruity, its acids are vivid and its tannins nicely gripping. The wine has a lot of character and intensity, though, since the aroma and flavor profile is unique and lovely. This is in a nice drinking spot at the moment and will remain so for a couple of years from now.

December 11, 2022 - 2021 Ferraton Père & Fils Plan de Dieu was generous and versatile with meat dishes.  The youthful Southern Rhône blend was clear and medium ruby in colour without any sediments.  Welcoming aromas of blackberry and black cherry were accompanied by lavender, thyme, crushed violet and black pepper spices.  To my surprise, the humble village wine improved on the second day.

The mouthfeel was dry and full-bodied, balanced with medium levels of acidity and powdery tannin.  There were flavours of kirsch, liquorice, garrigue herbs and dark chocolate in a medium, gently spiced finish.  It paired incredibly well with pan-seared Muscovy duck breast by enhancing the savoury quality.  I like how the characters of Grenache and Syrah combined harmoniously.  The 14% alcohol matched its structure and ripeness of fruits.  The empty bottle weighed 418 grams.

The vines are cultivated on an alluvial terrace at 80 to 150 meters above the sea level.  The well-drained soil is rich in gravels and large pebbles.  The grapes are completely destemmed.  The must is vinified in large concrete vats under controlled temperature with daily punching down to facilitate extraction.
