Why this petition matters
Back story:
My best friend and I are major arctic monkeys fans so we wanted to visit the boardwalk since the band had visited in 2010. We traveled about 3 hours to visit, just to take pictures. We had endlessly search Google and other social media platforms, just to see what it looks like today. We thought it would be different than it was in 2010 (since it had shut down) but we still expected it be accessible- just the stairs to the entrance- but when we got there, we were unpleasantly greeted by massive planks of wood covering where the stairs would have been. We were very disappointed to see an arctic monkeys tourist hotspot abandoned and ruined.
Our aim for the boardwalk is to be unboarded and to make it how it used to be, we want it to be what it was made for, but now it's sat doing nothing when it could be used for live music or the club that it was intended to be.
I think if sheffield city council or the owners of The Boardwalk, decided to sort it out it would be a famous attraction for AM fans, it would also look a lot nicer than it does now, in the nicest way possible it is an eyesore, it's untidy and unkept, I think if they did sort it out, it would maybe prevent trespassers, and potentially stop wasting police time. I think if the council took some time and money to realise what an acent it could be, they could make it a proper tourist attraction for AM fans. They should get rid of the big panels of wood and replace a panel of wood over the door to stop trespassers, so that the stairs are accesable but on this panel, they could decorate it with AM related art work.
Aswell as the boardwalk has quite a lot of history behind it and after reading about it off many websites, it makes me convinced we need to change how it is! Which makes needs to be back how it used to be
My thoughts and feelings:
I personally think if they had taken more consideration into the boardwalk they could have made it a homage side, attracting people from all over the country getting more people to spend money in Sheffield, which then will get regenerated back into the city and making it a lovely city for people to visit.
I feel like something should be done to sort this out since it has potential to be something great.
This is what it was in 2010 (we knew it wouldn't be the same as it was since that was over 13 years ago) but we thought it would be relatively similar.
This is what we thought it might possibly look like, we thought the stairs would still be accessible.
But as soon as we got there it was like this, we were very disappointed see that they had placed wooden boards over it.
If the council, or the owners were so bothered about it, (they are since they have put the massive wooden boards over it) they could have just made sure that no one could get in, eg putting the wooden boards on the entrance door to stop trespassers and then it would look a lot nicer
