Africa's busiest airport in 2022, by a large margin, was Cairo International Airport, according to Airports Council International, with more than 20 million passengers passing through.

South Africa's O.R. Tambo International Airport, near Johannesburg,was the continent's busiest airport in 2019 but has been second to Cairo since. In 2022, some 14.7 million passengers passed through the airport, named after anti-apartheid politician Oliver Reginald Tambo.
