The Mac Jr and Grand Mac were tested in 2016 in Ohio and Dallas, because they are 'beef-centric areas,' McDonald's Chef Mike Haracz told Buzzfeed in a November 2016 story.
Haracz told the news outlet that in both tests, the Mac Jr and Grand Mac were about equally popular.
The idea came about in surveys McDonald's has been performing with customers, asking them what kind of items they'd like to see on the menu, the website reported.
