Espanyol are hoping to sign former Brazil international Hulk on loan until the end of the season.
The 33-year-old scored 17 goals in 37 games for Shanghai SIPG last season.

Hulk's former coach Andre Villas-Boas recently described his former Porto side of 2011-12 as 'pornographic'.
'In Porto, when we were preparing, the players guessed the team that was going to play,' he said.
'But it's true that this team was pornographic, with Hulk, Falcao, James, Moutinho, Fernando, Otamendi, was one of the best teams in the world.
'When you look at the career they have made after it, it's amazing.'
With such rich talent at his disposal, the Portuguese side finished the season unbeaten domestically as they stormed to the title.
