Ansu Fati will miss out on Barcelona's pre-season campaign as he continues to recover from a serious knee injury.

The 18-year-old missed the majority of the 2020-2021 season after undergoing surgery on a knee injury that he sustained last November.

Now he is set to miss the club's pre-season fixtures and the start of the new season as his rehab drags on.

Fati was withdrawn at half-time of Barcelona's 5-2 win over Real Betis on November 7 after sustaining a meniscus injury.

The teenager was forced to undergo surgery, ruling him out of contention for Ronald Koeman's squad.

According to Diario AS, Fati has been working through his rehab programme in Madrid, under the guidance of knee specialist Dr Jose Carlos Noronha.

He was also spotted at the club's Ciutat Esportiva del Barcelona training facilities to undergo his standard pre-season medical tests.

However, he is still far off returning to training with the squad - much to Koeman's disappointment.

The news of Fati's extended absence will come as a major blow to Barca as the youngster had scored or assisted 40 per cent of the club's goals until his injury last season.
