Completely Handmade, carved and finished in the gorgeous ancient Japanese method of Wood Preservation by charring and sealed with pure Teak Oil and finished with natural beeswax. (Shou Ban)

The wonderful aged patina, with splits, knots the odd nail hole, and rustic carving technique makes this a beautiful tactile and charged item, with wonderful sense of age and heritage.

The symbol engraved upon it is one of the most recognized Icelandic staves.
The Helm of Awe (Old Norse Ægishjálmr, pronounced “EYE-gis-hiowlm-er”) is generally interpreted as being a symbol of protection, striking fear and awe into hostile forces.

But - Misses the later additions found in Hickes' Thesaurus Grammatica Anglo-Saxonica.

Highly academic, totally factual yet readable.. And a 'Must Read' in my opinion from one of the heavyweight scholars in runic system and script history.
