RAPHINE-Howard William "Johnny" Groah, 66, died Thursday (Nov. 30).
He was born May 16, 1923, at Vesuvius, a son of Ollie Houston and Maggie Campbell Groah.
He was a retired carpenter and was a member of the Steeles Tavern VFW post.
Surviving are his widow, Patricia Fultz Groah of Raphine; five daughters, Carolyn Burch of Fairfield, Charlene Armstrong of Greenville, and Phyllis Cash, Edna Jerman and Freda Groah, all of Raphine; one son, Joey Scott Groah of Rapine; four sisters, Helen Mizer and Margaret Swatt, both of Staunton, and Shirley Waymack and Betty Snyder, both of Vesuvius; three brothers, Francis Groah of Steeles Tavern, Floyd Groah of Raphine and Paul Groah of Moneta; and six grandchildren.
A service was conducted Saturday at Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Cemetery by the Revs. Russell Flemming and Phillip Mace.
Memorials may be made to Fairfield First Aid Crew.
Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, was in charge of arrangements.
