Jerman Jedithan"German" Wingo was born August 17, 1807 in Virginia being the son of Thomas, aka, Louis Thomas Wingo and Mary Holt/Wingo. Jerman Wingo came to what is now known as Graves County, Kentucky in 1825 at the age of 18. He settled on a site which became known as Point Curve then later changed to Wingo Station in honor of Mr. Wingo after the railroad came through his land and was eventually shortened to Wingo. Jerman built the towns first general store with the first train coming through Point Curve in 1854.

Jerman married Anna Yancy Beadles on January 17, 1826 at Pittsylvania County, Virginia. To this union there were known children born including Lewis Thomas Wingo b.Nov.15,1826, Martha Ann Wingo b.Oct.17,1828, Mary Elizabeth Wingo b.April 22,1830, Lucinda Jane Wingo b.May 14,1832, John William Wingo b.June 19,1834, Elijah Willis Wingo b.Feb.6, 1836, Theophilus Frances Wingo b.July 21,1838, Arominta Wingo b. Nov.6, 1839, Lorena Antionnete Loxamy Wingo b.Dec.2, 1841, Jerman J. Wingo Jr. b.Jan.7, 1845 and Eliza Isabella"Belle" Wingo b.Aug.22, 1848.

In 1850, according to the census records, Jerman J. Wingo owned 1800 acres of land, and his occupation was listed as "farmer". In 1870 he still farmed and owned two tracts of land containing 8,000 and 4,000 acres respectively.

Jerman J. Wingo Sr. died on December 28, 1873 and Anna Wingo died on December 10, 1879 with both being buried at the Ole Wingo-Greer Cemetery at Wingo, Kentucky.
