Nearly 20% of the U.S. population struggles with anxiety, and I’m the first to admit I’m part of that group. Thanks to plenty of research, I understand that I’ll probably never be rid of it completely, but I do just about anything I can to keep my heart-pounding anxiety under control: I meditate, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, write in a journal…the list goes on. But there’s one “remedy” I’ve been curious to try for a while—cannabidiol, or CBD.

There’s a handful of promising research supporting the idea that CBD—which is derived from hemp plants—may be an effective treatment for anxiety. With this goal in mind, I tried the Mint Breeze Broad Spectrum CBD Oil from Green Roads, one of the better known CBD brands on the market. Bodies react to CBD differently and your results may vary, but here’s a review of my experience.

  • Tastes amazing
  • Brand has great reputation in the CBD world

What I didn’t like

About Green Roads

Founded by licensed compounding pharmacist Laura Fuentes, Green Roads launched in 2013—before CBD was considered “mainstream.” The company got off to a shaky start as it attempted to navigate Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) regulations, but now, Green Roads CBD is sold in over 10,000 retail locations.

Green Roads offers a wide range of CBD products, including CBD oils, gummies, topicals, capsules and softgels, nootropics/mushrooms, chocolate, coffee and even a CBD product line for pets. Green Roads uses U.S.-grown hemp exclusively, and the company handpicks the farms it uses, requiring each one to have certificates of origin and analysis. These certificates show that the hemp has been tested for heavy metals, pesticides and other contaminants.

How Much Does Green Roads CBD Oil Cost?

A 30-milliliter bottle of Green Roads Mint Breeze Broad Spectrum CBD Oil containing 1,500-milligrams of CBD costs $150, which is rather pricey. A 1-milliliter serving, or one dropper full, contains 50 milligrams of CBD and costs about $5. With that said, I believe you get what you pay for, as this potent CBD oil offers great quality (with every product batch third-party lab tested for purity and potency), and it tastes great, too. For me, it was worth the cost.

Green Roads CBD Oil Potency

At 50 milligrams of CBD per 1-milliliter dose, this CBD oil is more potent than the majority of others on the market. I liked that the dose was one full dropper as opposed to a specific number of drops, which would be a bit more frustrating and difficult to measure.

I found this potency worked well for me, with one caveat: In the mornings, it made me a bit sleepy (which makes sense, as CBD helps a lot of people sleep), but that didn’t bother me at nighttime (for obvious reasons). After noticing this pattern, I cut my morning dose down a bit (to .75 milliliters); in doing so, I just noticed a feeling of calm alertness.

Is Green Roads CBD Oil High-Quality?

“[CBD quality] is probably one of the most challenging things to navigate,” says Ryan Vandrey, Ph.D., a professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore. “There are hundreds of products out there, and most claim to be the best and of the highest quality, but studies have repeatedly shown that there’s a huge range in CBD and THC content in these products and that many contain harmful contaminants.”

The best assurance of quality is to purchase an FDA-approved pharmaceutical product and one that’s regulated by a state-regulated cannabis access program. “Both the FDA and state-regulated cannabis programs have rules in place to ensure products are manufactured with appropriate quality control measures in place and that products are tested by an independent lab before they are sold,” says Vandrey.

Green Roads produces its products in an FDA-certified facility. An independent lab tests its raw ingredients and finished products, checking for contaminants, so Green Roads meets Vandrey’s requirements for quality.

Green Roads CBD oil also comes in a variety of flavor options, including Mint Breeze, Apple Kiwi Bliss and original (no flavor). It’s also vegan and gluten-free.

Our Green Roads Experience

I had an excellent experience with Green Roads CBD. The first thing I noticed was the flavor—years ago I tried an olive oil-based CBD oil, and it tasted terrible and burned my throat. The Green Roads Mint Breeze flavor, on the other hand, is delicious. It tastes like mint-infused honey, which made me look forward to taking it twice a day.

I started out by consuming 1 milliliter twice a day, but I ended up adjusting the dose so that I was taking less in the morning (.75 milliliters) and more at night (1 milliliter). I noticed it gave me a calm, slightly tired feeling almost immediately, and over time, I felt calmer and less anxious overall.

Green Roads felt like a great addition to my wellness routine, especially once I adjusted the dose for my needs. I will definitely be ordering another bottle.

Final Thoughts: Is it Worth Buying?

Green Roads Mint Breeze Broad Spectrum CBD Oil is a great option for someone looking to incorporate CBD into their wellness routine. As far as quality goes, this oil passes rigorous testing standards (it also has hundreds of positive reviews), and it tastes great. With that said, you might need to experiment a bit to find the right dose for you, and it’s always a good idea to consult your physician first.
