Shah Rukh Khan in Pathaan

Five long years after the release of Zero (2018), Shah Rukh Khan has returned to the big screen as a leading man in Pathaan. The movie has a power-packed cast, starring Deepika Padukone, John Abraham, and Salman Khan, alongside SRK. The teasers and posters have revealed the actor sporting an interesting new look, perhaps in an effort to reinvent himself. If you’re intrigued by SRK’s hairstyle and beard style in Pathaan, we bring you the tools to replicate them for yourself. We spoke to Bhavin Bheda, Business Manager, Cadiveu Professional, who helped us decode the actor’s all-new avatar.

How to cop Shah Rukh Khan’s man bun hairstyle from Pathaan

A nod to his look in Don 2, SRK flaunts a similar long-haired, greasy, and messy look in Pathaan. Though his hairdo has been styled in various ways, the one that stood out was the messy man bun. “In this hairstyle, a man’s long hair is gathered into a bun at the back of or on top of the head,” explains Bheda. According to him, it’s a fairly easy style to replicate and is suitable for all hair textures and types. “It particularly looks amazing if you have wavy or curly hair, as that additional texture helps in adding interest and a laid-back vibe to this quick hairstyle,” he says.

Pro tip: Bheda recommends going for this hairstyle on days when your hair's a little dirty— when it won’t cooperate enough to leave it down.

Styling tips

You can easily achieve this hairstyle at home with the aid of some styling tools and tricks. Below, Bheda shares a step-by-step guide to ace it.

Step 1: Tilt your head back to gather your hair into a ponytail at the height you’d like your bun to be.

Step 2: Secure your ponytail with a strong elastic.

Step 3: Grasp the ponytail in one hand and begin twisting it clockwise or counterclockwise until it forms a coil and begins to curve.

Step 4: Wrap the curving coil around itself at the base of your ponytail. Keep hold of the twist to keep it tight.

Step 5: Secure the twist with a second elastic by wrapping it around the base of the twisted bun.

Step 6: Finish the twisted bun by securing it with a few bobby pins.

How to nail Shah Rukh Khan’s beard style from Pathaan

SRK’s rugged beard style in the movie is consistent with his bad-boy character. “A scruffy beard involves facial hair that’s kept relatively short, probably at a length of between 2 and 5mm. There’s no particular shape consistently associated with the scruffy beard, so it’s a style that gives you the opportunity to get creative,” explains Bheda.

Styling tips

Not sure how to style a scruffy beard? Our expert, Bheda, shares a definitive guide for achieving this beard style below.

1. Prep your skin

Using your favourite facial cleanser, thoroughly wash your face. Use warm water and pay particular attention to the area you’ll be shaving. The moisture and warmth will hydrate and soften your skin and facial hair.

2. Trim hair to an even length

Using an adjustable beard trimmer, choose your length, perhaps 2, 3 or 4mm, and carefully trim your facial hair to even out the length.

3. Define beard shape

Once you’ve got a uniform length, you can start shaping your beard style. This is where you’ll want to make sure you have a precise and versatile electric shaving tool, which can achieve clean edges even in difficult-to-reach areas such as around your top lip and nose.

4. Take steps to moisturise and maintain your beard

Post-shave products are a crucial part of any facial hair maintenance routine. You’ll want to keep your beard well hydrated and moisturised, as well as take care of the skin beneath and around it.
