DK Island: Kongo Jungle
DK Island: Kongo Jungle
Origin: Super Mario 64
Available: From the Start
This stage is of course based on Rare's Donkey Kong Country series. Super Smash Bros. players will recognize it as another level that has been recycled from the first game -- but there have been some major changes to the look and setup of the level that makes it unique. For one, instead of floating in the air, the new Kongo Jungle stage is actually suspended over a wild waterfall. The stage retains its three-level setup, but there is now also an extra stepping stone over to the right that you can use to save yourself from falling. And since nothing is better than making a surprise comeback from near death, HAL has also kept the barrel that moves right and left at the bottom of the stage.
Barrel Cannon: This barrel moves left and right below the platform and is primarily designed to help out Donkey Kong himself. Since DK doesn't have a true vertical recovery jump, he can use this barrel to get back on stage. The barrel will fire when you hit A -- just make sure the arrow is aiming into the right direction or you might accidentally take yourself out. The barrel will automatically fire if you haven't hit your button within five seconds. Note that the barrel acts just like a platform, so if you've used a recovery jump to get into it, you will have a new one after you get fired out of the barrel.
Klaptrap: This crazy crocodile appears from time to time and swims down the river snapping at players on the right or left side of the main platform. You've got to be very unlucky to actually get hit by this guy.
Logs: Watch for logs that float down the river. They will become lodged in the left wall of the waterfall and act as an additional platform you can stand on or hang on to. Don't get too comfortable, though: the log will fall after some time.
