The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) high command is scheduled to hold a meeting and finalise the name of Karnataka’s next Leader of Opposition on November 17 (Friday), days after it appointed BY Vijayendra, son of former Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, as the new party state chief.

“I spoke to Nadda Ji yesterday. We have called for an all-MLA meeting on Friday to decide on the Opposition party leader,” the newly appointed state BJP chief, Vijayendra, told India Today TV on Saturday.

The high command is expected to announce the name of the opposition leader on that day.

According to sources, there are three senior leaders as front-runners for the post. They include 47-year-old Sunil Kumar, who belongs to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) group and is a four-time MLA, 55-year-old CN Ashwathnarayan, a four-time MLA from the Vokkaliga community, and 66-year-old R Ashok from Padhmanabhanagar, a seven-time MLA from the Vokkaliga community.
