This makes it possible for the first time to supply larger stocks on a permanent basis. The powerful system requires a cycle time of around 2 hours for a round bale.
For this purpose, Gebhardt’s proven steam generators have been further developed specifically for use in hay steaming.
The Hay Steamer HDS 1500 has the necessary power reserves to reliably and quickly steam the extensive hay mass of large bales.
In terms of safety, it is designed for on-farm installation and continuous operation and is ready for use within 1 to 2 minutes.

How does the steaming of a round bale work?
The round bale is steamed from the inside to the outside with a specially developed stainless steel lance. The lance is inserted in the lower third of the hay bale, then the container is closed and the steaming process starts. The steaming time is about 2 hours.
What temperatures are reached during steaming?
Steaming is performed with superheated steam at 3.5 bar absolute pressure. The steam has a temperature of approx. 135° Celsius.
How long does a steaming process take for a round bale?
The steaming process for a round bale takes about 2 hours.
Does the round bale steamer have a timer?
The round bale steamer has a timer that can be used to schedule the switch-off time. Alternatively, the device can also be operated manually.
How big can a round bale be for steaming?
The diameter must not exceed 1.40m. A container for round bales up to 1.80m can also be offered on request.
Is steaming of square bales also possible?
Yes, steaming of square bales is also possible. For this, a second lance incl. steam distributor is required and the maximum length may be approx. 1.70m.
For how many horses is the round bale steamer suitable?
The round bale steamer is suitable for stables with 5 to 60 horses. One round bale should be fed in approx. 5 days.
Does the round bale steamer require a water connection?
Yes, a drinking water connection is required. This can be done via a normal Geka coupling or a Geka-Gardena coupling with normal water pressure.
How much water is required per steaming process?
Approx. 20 liters of water are required per hour. This means that approx. 40 liters of water are required for one steaming process.
Does the steam generator of the round bale steamer need to be decalcified?
Yes, the steam generator should be decalcified approx. every 4 weeks. The actual rhythm depends on the number of uses per day and the lime content in the water. The decalcification process itself is very simple and can be completed in just a few steps.

Where can the round bale steamer be placed?
The container itself can be placed outside. The steam generator should be placed in a protected location. However, this does not necessarily have to stand frost-free – a frost protection device is integrated.
