Cook Strait Crossing
Based on a true story from New Zealand, this piece presents a wonderful opportunity for historical lesson plans as well as material for contest and festival performance. An ominous opening sets the stage for expressive alto and flute soli (either can be played as a solo). This gives way to a dignified and pronounced theme in three with melodic opportunities for both woodwinds and brass before coming to a strong ending.
