HONOLULU (KITV4) -- The Honolulu Fire Department is now taking action to assist in containing the devastating Maui wildfires.
Committed to serving communities in need and partner fire departments across the state, HFD officials say they're deploying 40 personnel firefighters, incident management team members, and search and rescue specialists to Maui after consultation with the County of Maui’s Department of Fire and Public Safety (MFD). They will all be assisting with the ongoing operations.
“Although we are separated by water, we are one big ohana, and our thoughts and prayers go out to those families who are affected,” Honolulu fire officials said in a press release.
Thursday afternoon, the Hawaii Air National Guard and Hawaiian Airlines will be helping to transport HFD personnel, equipment, and necessary supplies to Maui.
MFD will have the continued support of HFD during this difficult time.
