Great story.... would make a good move.
Appearing in over sixty movies throughout her career, Anna May Wong was the first Chinese American Hollywood star. Wong rose to stardom in a time when Chinese Americans were unjustly perceived as foreigners in American society. Her cinematic work and public persona were pivotal in beginning to shatter those stereotypes. Wong persevered, proudly showcasing her identity as Chinese-American, all while challenging discriminatory laws that hindered Chinese immigration and citizenship in the U.S. during the 1920s. Join us in celebrating #AAPIHeritageMonth, honoring Anna May Wong who fearlessly blazed a trail through the golden age of Hollywood. Wong’s career undoubtedly opened doors for generations of actors to come!

Very interesting numbers indeed! We still have a long way to go when it comes to VC for women and especially women of colour.
20+ Years Experience supporting Global Luxury Brands through Tailored Search and access to exceptional talent
Less ten 2% of all VC money goes to women. Serena Williams Is slowly changing this... This year Serena Williams investment company Serena Ventures saw 14 of her 85 investments reach unicorn status ( a start up company valued at over $1 Billion) Game, set, match!! Serena Williams set up her investment company Serena Ventures in 2017. primarily she invests in women, people of colour and underrepresented groups who have founded a star tups. Of the 85 companies in the portfolio 79% are underrepresented founders, 54% women founders, 47% Black founders and 11% Latino founders. “I learned that less than 2% of all VC money went to women,” Williams explained in a TikTok video. “And when I first heard that, I actually thought it was a misquote. I thought, ‘Well, they can’t be real.’ Like, we’re talking about trillions of dollars, and what do you mean less than 2% of that goes to women?…I learned that when I first started investing, I learned that actually was true and that was something that was happening. And so I knew right then and there that one day I wanted to raise a fund or raise money and invest in women.” She added, “I also learned that even less went to people of colour. So I thought, ‘My goodness. I’m a Black woman and say my name isn’t Serena Williams, or I hadn’t had a career, that means I would have less than, well, not even less than 2%, a fraction of a chance to get money if I wanted to start a company.'” “When people are talking about diversity, that really means everyone having a seat at the table, everyone having an opportunity to win. And that’s what I like to focus on.” What an incredible woman! It’s also worth noting her that during her tennis career she won 23 major (Grand Slam) women's singles titles, the second most of all time. She is the only player to accomplish a career Golden Slam in both singles and doubles. Serena is at the top of my list of inspirational people. Who’s is on your list?

Absolutely love this story! Nike told her "Know your place" and that's precisely where she went.
When Allyson Felix became pregnant, Nike was prepared to cut the terms of Felix's endorsements by as much as 70% due to the pregnancy, and told her to “know your place and just run.” Amid all of this, she was forced to have an emergency c-section seven months into her pregnancy because of a potentially life-threatening condition and her baby had to live for more than a month in the NICU. But two years later she qualified for her fifth Olympics with her daughter watching. Felix dropped Nike and created her own brand of running shoes, the Saysh One. She ran in the Olympics, in Japan wearing them under the banner “I Know My Place”. With 11 medals now, she passed Carl Lewis this summer for the most track and field medals by an American in history. "I used my voice and built this company for you. So that you never have to train at 4:30am while you're 5 months pregnant to hide your pregnancy from your sponsor.” Thanks to her courage and stating "I’ve been one of Nike’s most widely marketed athletes. If I can’t secure maternity protections, who can?" Nike was called in front of Congress and has since changed their maternity policy vis a vis sponsorship of female athletes. One person can make a difference.

Honoured to have been invited to speak at the artist talk of Carie Mae Weems at the Kunstmuseum in Basel. Her work is a powerful reminder of the importance of representation and the need for more inclusive spaces in the art world and beyond. Carie Mae Weems' work speaks volumes about the complexities of identity, representation, and the human experience. Through her lens, we confront truths, challenge perceptions, and embrace the beauty of diversity. Thank you, Carie Mae Weems, for your profound contributions to the world of art and for inspiring us to keep asking questions whilst striving for greater unity and understanding. And to the Kunstmuseum in Basel, thank you for providing a platform for such important conversations. May this be just the beginning of many more discussions that challenge, enlighten, and ultimately, bring us closer together. #DEI #cariemaeweems #blackart Kunstmuseum Basel Ananda Schmidt Marilyn Umurungi Patrick Gusset Tabea R. Excellence all the way!
She may have retired from tennis, but Serena Williams is still serving up BIG wins. After establishing Serena Ventures, a venture capital firm specifically designed for women and minority founders, she estimates that 14 of the companies in her portfolio have reached “unicorn status,” meaning they’re a privately held startup company valued at more than $1 billion. She shared, “I learned that less than 2% of all VC money went to women, and when I first heard that, I actually thought it was a misquote. I also learned that even less went to people of color.” She saw an opportunity to intentionally elevate underrepresented business owners and took it. Yes, she's investing in companies, but also equality. Real dollars are going toward a more equitable economy and future! I love to see it 👏
