SUSTAINABILITY PARTNERS 🤝♻️🇩🇰 🇸🇪: Sjørring, a Danish manufacturer of attachments for heavy machinery, is partnering with Nordic steel producer SSAB to contribute to a more sustainable future. The partnership revolves around SSAB Fossil-free steel, which is targeted to be released on a commercial scale in 2026. With this partnership, Sjørring stands out as one of the pioneers set to produce buckets made of emission-free steel. Every year, the Danish manufacturer Sjørring uses 15,000 tonnes of steel to produce attachments for construction machinery for brands worldwide like Steelwrist, Hitachi Construction Machinery, Volvo Construction Equipment and Epiroc. The manufacturer does so knowingly that the steel industry ranks among the top carbon emitters, accounting for 7% of all emissions globally. Now, Sjørring has partnered with steel producer SSAB to minimise its carbon emission footprint and be part of the transition to a fossil-free value chain. "At Sjørring, we recognise the environmental impact of our production processes and raw material consumption. That's why we're actively seeking ways to mitigate our footprint. Partnering with SSAB is one such step," explains Klaus Kalstrup, CEO at Sjørring. The fossil-free partnership was formalised by the signing of a Letter of Intent stating that Sjørring will get deliveries of SSAB Fossil-free steel starting in 2026. #partnership #steel #fossilfreesteel #sustainability #lowercarbon Jesper Ryhl Andreas Kjær Mette Bovbjerg Melissa Lasure Agnes Borg Anna Goryachkovskaya Mia Julin Loredana Colianni

⚡🔌𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐒𝐎 𝐋𝐀𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇𝐄𝐒 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐃𝐈𝐄𝐒𝐄𝐋-𝐄𝐋𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐑𝐈𝐂 𝐋𝐎𝐊𝐎𝐓𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐊 𝐄𝐂 𝐂𝐑𝐔𝐒𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 Metso has introduced a new diesel-electric power line - 𝐋𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐄𝐂 - into its Lokotrack range of crushers for the aggregates market. All the process functions of the new 𝐋𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐄𝐂 range are electric, significantly reducing the use of hydraulic oil needed in the crushing operations. All 𝐋𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐤 𝐄𝐂 range units can be powered with external electricity. At its '𝐋𝐨𝐤𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡' event in Tampere, Finland, Metso launched the first two products of the new EC range. Lokotrack LT400J is a 68-ton mobile jaw crusher designed for the primary crushing of hard rock and recycled aggregates. Lokotrack LT350C is a 50-ton mobile cone crusher for secondary and tertiary crushing. To reach high capacity, LT350C is equipped with the new Nordberg HP350e cone crusher, while LT400J counts on the proven Nordberg C120 jaw crusher. Metso says both units can be seamlessly combined with each other as well as with the Lokotrack mobile screens to produce high quality aggregates. “When external electricity is available, the new electric power transmission provides high capacity with minimised operational cost and CO2 emissions. When not available, the onboard diesel gensets allow maximum independent operation time. Also, auxiliary units, such as mobile screens and stackers, can be powered from the same gensets, which will further reduce the needed power to run the complete plant,” says Jarmo Vuorenpää, director, new Lokotrack offering at Metso.

EASTERN PROMISE👷🏻🪨🛥️ 🇬🇧: Aggregate Industries UK has announced its first venture into East Anglia with the opening of a new, 800,000-tonne per annum capacity wharf at Peel Ports Great Yarmouth. Positioned 24 miles from Norwich, the three-acre site will enable the construction materials manufacturer to transport large volumes of aggregates from remote origins in the north-west of Scotland where its immense coastal super-quarry, Glensanda, is located. With burgeoning energy and infrastructure plans underway within East Anglia, unprecedented demand volumes for crushed granite have been forecast. Alongside utilities reinforcements, and highway upgrades, major contracts such as Sizewell C nuclear power station, the East Anglia Array, and the Norwich to Tilbury Great Grid Upgrade will require a reliable and hefty supply chain of construction materials. But with only one stockist operating in the local market historically, supply pressure has been a notable risk for this key strategic region. Now, with the launch of this new site, a sure and steady supply of granite is assured. The crushed rock imported to Great Yarmouth will support a variety of projects in the local area. RECYCLED AGGREGATE VICTORY♻️🪨👷♂️👷♀️🇬🇧: The amount of construction aggregates from recycled and secondary sources in Britain has reached an all-time high as producers invest in more advanced ways to turn ‘waste’ into valuable materials. That’s one of the key findings of a new report from the Mineral Products Association (MPA) – which represents firms supplying over 90% of Britain’s aggregates - showing the total volume of recycled and secondary materials reached a record 73.5 million tonnes in 2022. The data confirms that recycling rates in Britain are higher than in any other major European economy – further evidence of the industry's longstanding commitment to resource recovery and efficient reuse, in line with circular economy principles. Processing includes crushing, segregating (removing metals, plastics, etc), washing and screening, and blending to create materials that meet technical specifications. In the report 'Construction Aggregates Supply in Great Britain: Primary, Recycled and Secondary Aggregates in 2022', the MPA demonstrates that non-primary materials accounted for over 30% of the country’s total demand for aggregates (which stood at 241.8mn tonnes in 2022, the biggest flow of materials in the economy). BREAKING RECORDS 🪨🛠️👷♂️👷♀️🇮🇹: The organisers of GIC-EXPO 2024 say that this year's edition of the European concrete industry event broke records, unveiled diverse innovation, and demonstrated unwavering optimism and commitment towards sustainability, driving the sector towards a vibrant and resilient future. The GIC 2024 exhibition and conference buzzed with record-breaking participation at Piacenza Expo in Italy from 18-20th April. The event hosted 263 exhibitors, up from 234 at the previous edition in 2022, while visitor attendance soared. Over 6,000 visitors from Italy and abroad descended on the halls of Piacenza Expo for GIC 2024, compared to around 5,000 in 2022. “The growth in visitor numbers is certainly exciting, but what truly matters is the quality of interactions at the event – and we put considerable effort into ensuring that the right people attend to help exhibitors expand their businesses,” explained Fabio Potestà, director of Mediapoint & Exhibitions, the company behind GIC. "Many of our exhibitors are highly selective about the events they participate in and find that GIC's laser focus on the concrete industry makes it easier to raise awareness and make valuable connections compared to more general construction exhibitions." A survey conducted at GIC revealed that 72% of exhibitors believe specialised exhibitions such as GIC foster higher quality interactions with visitors compared to general construction events. CHECKING IN 🪨🎥🇨🇳😮: A cracking video showcasing the Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental, a stunning underground hotel in an abandoned quarry. As Hooman Askari notes, the five-star site, also known as the Songjiang Quarry Hotel, is located just 30 miles (48 km) outside downtown Shanghai in China. It is run by the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and designed by British Architect Martin Jochman. Our editor Guy Woodford would very much like to stay there during his next trip to China, expenses account permitting! 😁 #quarry #restoration #hotel #china

🏨 An underground hotel in an abandoned quarry - Shimao Wonderland Intercontinental Hotel 🏨 Also known as the Songjiang Quarry Hotel, this five-star hotel is located 30 miles (48 km) outside downtown Shanghai, China. It is run by the InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and designed by British Architect Martin Jochman. 🏨 The design takes advantage of the surrounding cliffs and waterfalls, with underwater rooms and observation decks overhanging the quarry walls. Activities include sports on the lake like sailing, rock climbing, bungee jumping, and more! 🏨 The hotel took 12 years and more than more than 5,000 architects, engineers, designers, and workers to build, and opened in 2018. 🏨 Not only does the hotel prevent further ecological damage by utilizing an unoccupied mine, it’s also energy efficient. The structure of the quarry forms a microclimate and thermal inertia that keeps cool in the summer and warm in the winter. A great example of mine reclamation and passive sustainability! ✔ For more information on what I do: https://lnkd.in/gw6bKKm ✔ Click on the hashtag to follow me for mining news and educational content: #MiningNewsByHooman 🔗 All rights and credits reserved to the respective owner/s - source: @Rafa Goes Around! on YouTube #mining #miningindustry #china #renewables
