A dramatic "retrojet" shot to start the week! In this striking photograph we see Continental's circa-1955 "Blue Skyways" livery on Boeing 737-924ER "N75435." The color scheme was chosen after an employ voting contest between several potential historic CAL looks. This image was captured as the airplane was in a climbing turn having just departed Newark International's Runway 22R one morning in July 2017. As many of you know 2017 was quite a few years after the Continental/United merger. It is a credit to United that it has not only retained this retrojet but even transferred the colors to another 737 (for reasons unknown). United currently has an A320 painted up in UAL's 1972 "Four-Star Friend Ship" livery as well. Interested in legendary Pan Am? 🚀✈🚁 IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) A321 aircraft suffers (another) tail strike 🚀✈🚁 ▪️An IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) Airbus A321-200N, registration VT-IMW performing a flight from Bangalore to Ahmedabad (India) suffered a tail strike on landing on June 15th. The airplane was cleared to perform an approach for Ahmedabad's runway 23, but struck its tail onto the runway surface. This is the fifth time in 9 months that an Airbus A321 has suffered a tail strike in India. ▪️A tail strike occurs when the aft fuselage of an aeroplane comes in contact with the runway during either takeoff or landing. Statistically, the majority of tail strikes occur on landing. Tail strikes most often occur as a result of human error although environmental factors, such as strong gusty winds, can increase the potential for an event. ▪️Tail strikes can cause substantial damage to the aft fuselage of the aircraft which can be time consuming and expensive to repair. In the most extreme scenario, a tail strike can cause pressure bulkhead failure, which can ultimately lead to structural failure. #aircraft #airbus #aviation #india #event #environmental #bangalore #ahmedabad #structural

Air India's first Boeing 747-437's were delivered in the classic (and classy) early 1970's era "Palace in the Sky" livery. The individually painted window surrounds, visible here, were part of the magic of this color scheme. VT-ESP, "Ajanta," was caught on short final approach into Frankfurt am Main in the late spring of 2004 (it seems that this time of year is one airliner photographers seem to especially prefer). By 2008 this look was on the way out, replaced by a somewhat similar design which included engine nacelles painted bright red along with a red and orange "sunburst" design on the tail with the same "Air India" logotype. Recently, just this year, in fact, the carrier introduced a completely new livery which basically carries over nothing from the two previous schemes. Please feel free to repost this link.
