I'm so sad to hear today's news that Diageo CEO Ivan Menezes has passed away, aged 63. Ivan was one of a kind. Firm and fair. Unequivocal on equality. A phenomenal advocate for senior women in the workplace. Principled and passionate. He had incredible humility - despite his achievements, he saw Diageo's successes as shared. When I congratulated him on his Knighthood earlier this year, he said the honour belongs to all who have shaped Diageo. He was more than I could have wished for in my time in employee engagement. He put people first. He never turned down a single request to engage with teams all around the world. I think he got his energy from them. He certainly gave them his. He loved to chat to people in the lunch queue in the London office. Or while walking around the corridors. On results days, he'd head straight to the office late afternoon to debrief employees and answer all their questions. Those sessions were popular, the Diageo bar packed out. A story teller - always with a purpose or a principle at the heart. A Guinness adorer. Johnnie Walker pioneer. Brand builder. My thoughts are with Ivan's family.
