This year 30,000 art pieces were sold at the International Folk Ark Market; on average, artists and/or artist cooperatives earned almost $21,000 each over the four-day event. Often, a single artist who comes to Market represents a larger group of artisans back home - sometimes up to 800 individuals. For artists traveling from a small village in Latin America or in India or Africa, these earnings can represent over 50% of their annual income. “Oftentimes, these artists help build schools, dig water wells, and establish clinics, in addition to supporting their families,” said Hank Coleman, the Chair of the Board of Directors. “It's pretty marvelous.” View The Full Story: https://lnkd.in/gHDYMW2q

Municipal Affairs at COA - Partnering with municipalities and transit authorities to provide cost-free infrastructure.
This is a fun way to feature local artists and increase ridership!❤️ Does your city need some help? Is your city's bus stop situation stuck in the Stone Age? We're talking benches older than Mick Jager, paint falling faster than Taylor Swift’s boyfriends, then it's time for a major makeover, my friend. Benches are not just a convenience; they're a bridge to a more equitable transportation system. The elderly, pregnant women, people with disabilities – all deserve a place to sit and wait with dignity. A lack of accessible seating at bus stops is a major barrier to public transit use for people with disabilities, according to the NCDJ. COA offers cost-free and maintenance-free bus bench programs that benefit municipalities and their citizens. With our innovative solutions, municipalities can enhance their public transportation infrastructure without any financial burden or ongoing maintenance costs. The art market’s generational, cultural, and technological shifts have inspired artists to reconsider the gallery model in its traditional form. However, this trend is not solely a result of recent market shifts. Recent cases show that artists continue to suffer significant yet avoidable financial loss when their gallery goes out of business. Pierre Valentin and Mona Yapova consider whether the standards to which galleries are kept when managing artists’ funds deserve re-evaluation. The opacity of the art market benefits a tiny elite of collectors, gallerists, and artists, but makes it harder for most artists and art lovers to connect. Art market expert Magnus Resch says that greater transparency and new technology could transform the economics of art. "Purchasing art solely as an investment is not advisable. Buy art because you love it, because you want to support an artist, because you want to support a community, because you want to support a gallery." Today's episode of how not to succeed as an artist. Constantly compare yourself and your success or lack of it to other artists. Wonder what other artists are doing right that you're doing wrong. Try to figure out what's hot right now, what's selling best, and what collectors are looking for so that you can make some of it yourself and cash in. Turn down certain opportunities to show your art because they're beneath you. Only take shows with galleries you think can get you into better galleries.
