What makes service design unique is the possibility to combine holistic thinking with systems thinking and designing for a social impact, another way to say it could be - designing for good. In the past two days I volunteered and attended the Service Design Global Conference, and I’m grateful and honoured to be part of this brave network! Throughout the conference, there was a strong emphasis on empathy, well-being, asking difficult questions and making space for psychological space. Definitely a lot of valuable content to digest over the weekend! Thank you Service Design Network! #servicedesign #network #empathy #socialimpact #design

I'm excited to share that our team is participating in the finals of the global design competition!
✋ Meet team 58°N! They are four passionate Master's design students from Linköping University in Sweden. Coming from France, Lithuania, Brazil and Germany and from different backgrounds, diversity is their main strength. They are interested in addressing the mental health challenges students face to overcome the rift between social expectations and biological rhythms. Agathe Malbet, Deimantė Butkutė, Felipe Rocha Melhado and Julia K. 🙌🏼 The Student Service Design Challenge is a global design challenge that celebrates, encourages and inspires the next generation of designers. It is initiated by Philips, co-organised with SERVICE DESIGN COLLEGE, IBM, IKEA and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation. #SSDC2023 #servicedesign #designcompetition #designresearch #designthinking #experiencedesign #wellbeing #happiness

It's exciting to have been chosen to take part in the worldwide Student Service Design Challenge and focus on the subject of wellbeing. Our team's proposal was focusing on challenges that students face during the darkest months in Southern Sweden. I am looking forward to learning from industry experts while contributing to the advancement of service design practices! -- We are the team called 58°N, composed of Agathe Malbet, Julia K., Felipe Rocha Melhado and me, all studying in the MSc Design at Linköping University. #servicedesign #designchallenge #contest #wellbeing

This semester, together with Ylva, Hanjun and Kutman, I had a chance to work on participatory design project with external stakeholder Gröna Studenter. Our work focused on one of the main principles of participatory design – empowering. We were striving to make a difference in environmental activism and to build an engaged community in Gröna Studenter Linköping's branch. Our collaboration involved stakeholder mapping workshop, an activity workshop with engaging prototyping tools and creating a strategy for the stakeholder to continue using the tools learnt from our collaboration when the course is over. The latter is my favourite part of participatory design. It is quite rewarding to see that your effort is paying off and the change is continuing even after the project. You can read more about the course and our project in Jonas Löwgren's article: https://lnkd.in/d_pisHZK #participatorydesign #linköpingsuniversity

In today's seminar about immersive information spaces, a class fellow shared an example of VR experience that expanded my views on designing for VR. "The key" is a VR experience capturing the journey of different environments and revealing a heart-breaking truth about people who have to leave their homes because of war. "Most refugees still have the key to their house, even though we'll probably never see it again..." It is an inspiring example of how VR technology, great storytelling, and a combination of virtual and real worlds, can be a powerful tool to enable users to feel empathy towards different life stories.
