The certification industry is facing challenges in the current digital age and must adapt to the changes brought by the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). While the concept of conformity assessment remains secure, the industry is falling behind in digital adoption. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for digitisation, with the introduction of remote and blended assessments being just the first steps in the digitalisation journey. The digitisation of conformity assessment information into a secure, recognised source will improve verification, prevent fraud, and enhance traceability. The industry must address questions of standards and participation criteria, with the aim of creating a common process based on internationally recognised standards. The conformity assessment industry must work in collaboration with those relying on its services to ensure its continued role in supporting frictionless trade across international borders. #digital #conformityassessment #certification #4ir
