As a way to commemorate #InternationalWomensDay, I had the privilege to participate on a panel, Courage Conversations, with my friends and colleagues; Christine Cooper, Lyla Kanji, Viviane Croux, and Lynda Taylor moderated by Sheri Griffiths. I am grateful to be surrounded by amazing female colleagues who demonstrate courage and authenticity with our teams and communities. Today, I am deeply reflective on the personal impact of two dear colleagues, Jenny Li and Dean Anastas, both recently taken from us far too soon. Dean was well known for his booming voice, intelligence, and his holding of people to high levels of personal accountability. To me, and to so many other women at BMO, he also showed up as an ally, advocate and a sponsor personally committed to providing opportunities and a voice for women. Jenny brought light, passion and truth to her business and clients every day. A story was shared at her Celebration of Life that I keep coming back to - At a client lunch, the male client asked who the ultimate decision maker was. Without missing a beat, her leader emphatically pointed to Jenny and made clear that all accountability and empowerment rested with her, rather than with him. So simple, but so impactful. On today's panel, we answered questions about Imposter Syndrome, and how we as women can build confidence and engage courageously. But I am also so grateful for those like Dean and Jenny's leader, who have embraced the opportunity to be a champion providing support, empowerment and endorsement. #proudtoworkatbmo
