An exciting week has just passed! The 4th AERAP Africa-Europe Science Collaboration Forum, hosted by the South African Mission to the EU in Brussels through its Department of Science and Innovation office, took place from 22 to 24 April 2024. This pivotal platform aimed to capture the essence of the European Union’s Science and Development agendas and highlighted the vital role of science and digital innovation in shaping EU policies towards Africa. The Forum is a reflection of the collaborative ethos championed by Team Europe, aiming to position African scientific leadership at the forefront. The discussions fostered deeper engagement with policymakers and amplified the impact of scientific initiatives, strengthening the ties between African stakeholders and their European counterparts through strategic science and innovation partnerships. We believe that science and innovation are key drivers for the sustainable development of both regions, and we are thrilled to see the progress made at the 4th AERAP Africa-Europe Science Collaboration Forum. Exciting learnings from the GreenQUEST Public Forum 💡 Green energy innovators and sector leaders gathered at Old Mutual House in Cape Town, for a groundbreaking forum hosted by GreenQUEST on 11 April. We delved into the future of green liquified fuel gas (g-LFG), exploring its potential to revolutionize energy consumption and reduce environmental impact. ⚡️Highlights: ● Jack Fletcher shared inspiring insights on g-LFG’s potential to transform energy access and reduce carbon emissions significantly. ● Monica R. professional provided a perspective on the energy landscape in sub-Saharan Africa and on the role of sustainable fuel alternatives in addressing energy insecurity challenges. ● Kirthi Chetty from Hydrogen Energy Applications showcased and discussed promising initial results, demonstrating-LFG's performance as a clean cooking fuel. ● Niels Luchters, CEO of HYENA, discussed the impact of g-LFG on distributed power generation and its transformative potential for energy independence. ● Gareth Shaw, synthetic fuel expert, addressed challenges with the cost and scale of decarbonising industrial processes. We also enjoyed enriching discussions on scalability and commercial viability from experts like Neill Bartie and Nico Fischer in Chemical Engineering, emphasizing the need for robust partnerships and innovative approaches to meet global energy demands. Special thanks to Eudy Mabuza, Mareli Botha and Annelize Van der Merwe for their perspectives on policy, infrastructure and green economy initiatives that are crucial for the advancement of such technologies. 🔗 For more details on the project and upcoming events, visit our website: www.greenquest.africa. 💬 What are your thoughts on the future of green fuels?
