This is a great idea for an emergency set up for airfields that have electricity issues after a hurricane
Solar lights would be a perfect for the small airports in the Bahamas.
I was just recently at Juan Santamaria in San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) and they use solar lighting as well. It makes a lot of sense in environments that can support it. I don't see it being viable in Northern climates where snow obscuration and short cloudy days are more common.
solar lighting system with Pilot Controller Lightning (PCL), system deployed since February 2017, change of 100% of batteries (deep cycle charge) after 4 years. Operational at Las Marías aerodrome - SCVL - Valdivia - Chile. (belonging to the network of small aerodromes)
an awesome idea. in the future we should consider solar energy as an alternative and the best one by the way because there will be no paying bills . thanks for sharing Federal Aviation Administration
Will they be dimmable like most if not all of the existing lighting? Also will they be on all the time or be activated by mike clicks on a CTAF freq?
Looks like the Eagle lighting system that DOD purchased back in 2011
