What does it take for Shell to deliver our part in the energy transition? It requires unwavering focus on performance and disciplined delivery. I was inspired to see this in action last week when I spent time with our Shell Canada teams at the Energy and Chemicals Park in Scotford and offices in Calgary. Our business in Canada is truly integrated. From shale gas extraction, to refining and manufacturing, from delivering fuels to customers across the country, to reducing our own emissions. The Shell Canada team is working on developing offers across our businesses that help customers reduce their emissions. The Scotford facility is a great example of strong integration between our upstream and downstream businesses. The refinery - Canada’s most energy efficient - takes a low-cost feedstock from the adjacent bitumen upgrader and converts it into fuels for use in the Western Canadian Mobility network. The site is also home to the Quest Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) facility, which captures, transports and safely stores more than one million tonnes of CO2 every year. As the site looks to further decarbonise, Scotford recently opened a 5MW solar farm at their chemicals facility, and a 58MW solar farm to help power the refinery is under construction. Last year, a power purchase agreement was signed for an additional 50MW of wind power for the facility as well. This is the power of integration in action. This is how we are playing our role in the energy transition. My thanks for the warm hospitality and inspiring visit Susannah L. Pierce, Mark Pattenden and teams!
