Is 40 too late to change careers? Heck no! After a 20 year career as an Advanced Care Paramedic, supervisor and Deputy Chief, I decided to change careers - and follow my dream of becoming a pilot. Now, in a sense, I have combined both careers by flying as a Medevac pilot. While I no longer care for the patients myself, I make sure they get to where they need to be to receive the care they need. At any age, follow your passion. It may take some sacrifice at first, but in my experience that sacrifice will pay dividends in the end.
Flying in northern Saskatchewan for the last few months has been incredible. The sights are simply breathtaking, as you can see from this photo taken at Wollaston Lake last night. Tomorrow marks the start of Paramedic Week in Canada, so this post is perhaps timely, and also a little bittersweet. This photo was taken on my last shift as a paramedic supervisor last weekend. I’ve had a fantastic career and am privileged to have been provided many opportunities for learning and advancement over the past 19 years. It has been very rewarding in many different ways. It’s time to start a new career and an exciting new chapter in my life.
