#MissedNarratives On 14th January, 2024, I traveled from Goa International Airport (GOI) to Visakhapatnam International Airport (VTZ) with IndiGo (InterGlobe Aviation Ltd) via Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) and my connecting flight from Hyderabad to Vizag got canceled. We were informed about the cancellation at the boarding gate. I had to argue for a long time with the staff to get my tickets on the next possible direct flight on a priority basis, as both Amma & I were in wheelchairs — I am a person with late blindness and live with a rare neurological condition - #IIH, an invisible disability that requires reasonable accommodations, such as lying down at regular intervals, and Amma has age-related mobility limitations. Initially, I was offered connecting flights to Vizag with 10-hour layovers. After 4 hours of waiting without water, food, and lack of information, we were asked to board the flight that was departing in 5 minutes. It was a rush! We somehow managed to board the flight with the support of wheelchair assistants. I traveled without my luggage in that chaos. Quite a messed up journey on 14th from between Delhi-Goa-Delhi too! The entire schedule had a spiral effect on all the flights with agitated travellers and humble but firm airlines staff at the receiving end. I was one of them on the Goa-Delhi Flight that reached Delhi on 15th morning (nearly 24 hours spent in transit for a 2.5 hours flight) after a unscheduled diversion to Bombay airport only to see a midnight dinner on the tarmac there! It could have been handled better with clear instructions and options to travellers to take refund and choose alternate modes rather than holding them up without timely information. Big lesssons.

The service industry needs to match global standards of Quality of Services vis-à-vis ensuring Reasonable Accommodations and such unwanted cases of 'Deficiency in Service' must warrant not just strict penalties but also victim compensation.
