Back to civilization, hello Linkedin humans! 👀 It's been a while since I posted here.. As they say, whoever wants to go far takes care of his horse. In recent weeks we have been quite with my team with onboarding new clients for Messeh Advertising as well as launching several projects simultaneously. Ramadan was also beneficial for meditating a lot on the spiritual side and clearing out my body 🌙 There is something that I have always felt in the business world for almost a decade now: - When a professional or personal relationship is coming to an end, you have to know how to cut it off. In life you shouldn't force things. - When civilization weighs you down, you also have to know how to take some time off and reconnect with nature. These last few days I was 4.5 hours from the capital Panama City, in the Veraguas region, to take care of my land, do a little DIY and plant a few mango trees. What happiness! It reminded me of my childhood in Brittany (yes the small country to the west of France) 🖤 See a real starry sky, the mountains, unspoiled beaches, the moon and howler monkeys, far from the hustle and bustle of the city. I recommend that you disconnect from time to time, it does the greatest good and deeply regenerates the soul. You then come back with renewed strength and new ideas 💡 Never neglect the creativity in us that needs to be nourished. Because routine kills. We are already more than 4 months into 2024, many objectives have been achieved but there is still much to do. 🌴 Life in Panama is sweet, especially when I see everything coming true in Europe that unfortunately I had anticipated since 2018. Perfect and pristine nature makes you aware of the wickedness of humans. If you have a dream go for it and don't listen to jealous people and other people who project their own fears onto you. There is no better time to get started than now. French youth are leaving the country in large numbers. That’s the big thing right now. Everyone is talking about it, on Youtube, Linkedin or Tiktok. In 2019 when I left France, my native country, for Panama, this movement was still marginal. People and our families didn't really understand our 'why'. ...But today everything has changed. 👉 30% of 18-25 year olds in France want to leave the country and make their lives elsewhere. Some parents even encourage their children to emigrate for a better future. And that’s completely understandable. What an irony for a country which historically has never experienced large waves of emigration (unlike Italy or Ireland for example in the 19th century). 🫠 Because the land of the baguette is unfortunately also: 1/ A stifling tax system. Which entrepreneur would want to work their whole life to pay up to 70% in taxes? Who do we work for in the end? 2/ Social tension has reached its peak since 2018, in big cities and even in the countryside. Insecurity is rampant everywhere. 3/ A huge increase in the cost of living. Finding housing is also an obstacle course (do we need to talk about access to property for young people?). 4/ An anxiety-provoking environment and a hatred of success (money) that kills your dreams. Negativity has never produced anything good in history. 5/ Deep civilizational and spiritual problems. A loss of meaning in life. Most will tell you, those who left 5, 10 or 20 years ago do not regret it. Seeing the country of one's childhood slowly dying and not being able to do anything about it is unbearable for many and this trend will only increase in the future (we bet?). It is true that the grass is not necessarily greener elsewhere. But remorse is better than regrets for not taking action. For my part, zero regrets, Panama is not perfect but matches all my personal and professional criteria for half a decade. I can now call this country “Home”. Why I love working with emerging countries. (Yes even yours) A few years ago, everyone swore only by the West. And they were probably right. But since 2020 a cataclysm has arrived. Emerging countries are rising. When I launched into ecommerce in 2017 the business was mainly in countries such as the USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. The saturation level is now very high in almost all niches. Making the difference is complex. Today, online commerce is spreading to all areas of the world, with ever more innovative payment methods. And the ‘blue oceans’ are there, everywhere, you just need to widen your field of vision. BRICS countries represent 47% of the world's population and 36% of this planet's GDP. During my last trips to Europe, I saw an aging continent in complete decline. When I go to Africa, I am always more shocked to see the level of wealth per square meter, the youth and the dynamism. Despite what the media may say. Certain strategic poles such as Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Bahrain, Oman, Nigeria, Brazil, Mexico, Morocco and Egypt are today lands of opportunities. The new USA in a few ways: - Business opportunities to seize - A large number of young people who want to undertake - Mentalities open to business and money - Excessive innovation I no longer count the repats who return to live and do business in Abidjan or Kinshasa. Nairobi in Kenya is gradually becoming established. Even French youth are leaving in large numbers to do business in Thailand and South America. When I was a teenager, I knew one thing: That I wanted to do business and link the southern countries together. Create strong south-south relations. The 5 reasons that made me stay in Panama 👀🌴 (as an entrepreneur) I arrived in Latin America in 2017. Starting with Colombia. At that time I was still a business school student. Then I came back two years later to settle in the region as an entrepreneur (thanks to Shopify). On my return I only spent two months in Colombia and I quickly came to Panama City and made it my base camp until today. I could have preferred Dubai, Singapore, Malta or Miami... But I haven't found anything better than Panama according to my personal and professional criteria. I explain to you: 1/ Panama offered a ‘friendly nations’ visa of which France was a part, I was able to have permanent residence in 6 months. Which was absolutely not possible in Colombia. 2/ In an unstable world, Panama offered passport and nationality after 5 consecutive years in the territory as a permanent resident. 3/ The business environment is just incredible while maintaining a proper nature/city balance. Want to go green for a weekend? Head to the Bocas Del Toro archipelago in the caribbean at Palmar Beach Lodge. 4/ The geographical position between Central America and South America. Proximity to the USA and a solid national airline (Copa Airlines). 5/ Insecurity in Colombia is a real issue and in Panama you can walk everywhere, drive and go out at night without fearing for your life. Why an entrepreneur should never give up sport 👇 (yes even you) Practicing a sporting activity goes beyond maintaining your body and being in good health. For a successful entrepreneur this is essential. I noticed that many of my best ideas were born during my sessions at the gym or during a football match. Or in the waves of the Panamanian Pacific coast (surfing in Veraguas). Sport opens your mind and gives you special inspiration. During the period that we all know in 2020, I gained a lot of weight which I have since lost. Lack of physical activity and anxiety made me eat like a hamster. I felt less confident and this was reflected in my business results. In Panama we are lucky to have gyms and swimming pools in almost all residences. Incredible forests like in Panama Pacifico (Trillo Titi) or Parque Metropolitano. - I walk my 10,000 steps a day (the office chair kills) - I do my push-ups, pull-ups and dumbbells 3 times a week - One or two football training sessions per week (at night) This gives me the strength. Why moving from where you grew up will make all the difference. (yes it is true) You don't decide where you were born but you have the power to tailor your future. When I lived in my working-class neighborhood (HLM) in the Parisian suburbs, my head was full of dreams. But I felt limited by my environment. I first had to travel within France for studies and discover life in the heart of the city of Lyon to understand this: - Leaving where you grew up is a must to truly know yourself - Travel opens you mind and makes you stronger - Some places on earth pull you up and others hold you back - One encounter can totally change your life It was through adventure that in 2017 I learned to develop new skills and became an expert in online advertising. It was also through adventure that I achieved 3 million turnover in e-commerce in a very short time (thanks Shopify, Google and Meta) It is in adversity and solitude that the best in me (the entrepreneurial fighting spirit) was born. And that I understood that complaining and waiting for the system to come to my aid was of no use. Having an empty fridge is traumatic. (But with a sharp mind we fill it) In January 2019 I was still in my 15m2 student apartment. I was supposed to finish my master in marketing and communication at the CY Cergy Paris Université. I was then on a 6-month internship at Interflora France in Lyon. I had the opportunity to perfect my strategies there and meet Thomas Puget who was my Google Ads mentor (thanks again). I have been tinkering with e-commerce and selling products on the internet for 2 years now. I had just made 50K euros in turnover in one month for Christmas (Q4). I started this adventure with a minimal budget of 250 euros in 2017. Mastering Facebook ads was like a game and I launched new products every week on the market. Then the snowball grew and I managed to create a little working capital. At the time, people such as Yomi Denzel and his Ecom Elite course helped me a lot, both technically and at the mindset level. I was not satisfied with the position I was at. A terrible frustration. By seeing others live their tailor-made lives. And I was getting stuck in a vicious circle, which I knew would not suit me later. Study, work and retire. It was not for me at all. I dreamed of geographic and financial freedom. Then one morning I got fed up and decided to leave everything. I decided to drop my studies and stop the internship one morning on a whim. To devote myself 100% to e-commerce. 3 months from diploma. Everyone thought I was crazy. But...My Q4 website was no longer selling, I couldn't relaunch it. And everything I tried failed. My mother no longer spoke to me. The adventure turned into a nightmare. A real psychic torture night and day. My fridge was empty, I only ate buttered pasta with a little tomato sauce. Meal after meal. No support, no income, I had lost almost all my cash flow of 15K euros in tests on Ads (real madness). Nothing smiled at me. While I only had 150 euros left in my self-employed account, I decided to try one last thing on Google Ads. Hit or miss… And like magic, it worked! ⚡In a few weeks I managed to restart the machine: - In September 2019 I left France to live my dream in Latin America. - Then like on my vision board that I looked at every morning, I came to do my residency in Panama. - Thanks to mastering online advertising science, I went from totally broke to making several millions in e-commerce in the years that followed. From spending 15 euros per day on Facebook Ads to 10,000 US dollars per day. Make 3 sales per day to several hundred. And make more than 400K USD per month in turnover. Manage stocks, product quality, packaging, cash flow, teams around an e-commerce store that runs like a rocket. This is the power of online advertising. Home is where you feel good. In my case, we are talking about Colombia and Panama. It's been 7 years now, the first time I set foot in Bogota in 2017. Having grown up in Paris, in a working-class suburban neighborhood (shout out to 78), nothing predestined me for this. Of Breton origin through my mother and Ivorian through my father. I had always told myself that once I grew up I would quickly live in Abidjan in Ivory Coast. To discover Africa and my roots in more depth. I have been there many times on vacation, staying up to 3 months. But actually no. The long-term lifestyle didn't suit me. For business too, many things did not match my realities. I also tried for a while to try the digital nomad adventure. But the feeling of never being at home was mentally draining. I have now been a permanent resident of Panama for 5 years. I established my base camp there and go to Colombia very often. These two countries constitute my balance throughout the year. Of course I often go to France and Africa to see family and friends.
