In Copenhagen where I was invited to speak at the Democracy Summit Alliance of Democracies Foundation. Looking at the fundamental priorities at EU level in the years to come, I see three main areas: - Our common democratic values - Strengthening our economic base - Investing more in defence and security #CDS2024

The 43rd session of the Joint Parliamentary Assembly of the African, Caribbean and Pacific countries and the European Union (ACP-EU JPA) kicks off today. The summit will put forward possible common solutions to face global crises like climate change, terrorism, food security, poverty and human rights. Our group, spearheaded by MEP Carlos Zorrinho, will make sure the assembly tackles the challenges ahead with a progressive approach centred on multilateralism, democracy and rule of law. To be effective, however, we need the post-Cotonou Agreement to be ratified. Single European Countries must stop keeping the progress of multilateralism in hostage for cheap political games. Only together can we all be stronger. #eu #acp #europe

It's week two of #INB9 resumed in Geneva and we are in the last push to secure a #pandemic agreement that will help us be better prepared to prevent and respond were we to face a pandemic threat. While we remain hopeful that an agreeable pact will be secured, the articles that promise the best chance to seed progress towards sustainable, equitable response remain the most contested! As the Pandemic Action Network, Resilience Action Network Africa and partners engage member states and other relevant stakeholders on the sidelines of the negotiations, we hope that common public good will triumph over self-defeating partisan interest.

Welcome to UNGA week, which started yesterday. While there were several discussions on the relevance and seeming growing fragmentation of the UN and UNSC with only one of its five permanent members' leaders attending this year (as suggested in the articles appended), remember to consider sometimes underreported or behind-the-scenes events such as ongoing dialogues amongst members or states to facilitate cooperation or work towards it. To the IR realists - it is what is it. So what means of diplomacy can help to facilitate alliances, stability, and security for international politics? What can states and institutions do to achieve that tenuous balance of power? Something to reflect on following my IR/Global Futures class with Prof. Michael F. Oppenheimer yesterday.
