It's official now: I am a Canadian citizen 🇨🇦 It feels like this changes nothing and, at the same time, is a huge accomplishment. It comes after more than eleven years since I first landed in the west coast of this country for an academic year as an exchange student, and close to five years since I landed in the east coast to work and settle here. This is also a "return on investment" of sorts for all the thousands of dollars I spent in applications and lawyer fees during a challenging process to become a permanent resident during a global pandemic in 2020-2021, and I love that now I'm sharing dual citizenship with my nieces. I want to note than in the first picture, a virtual selfie with the judge who led the citizenship ceremony, I got a piece of Barcelona to appear with me. The picture above my desk is one I took in 2010, landing in the Barcelona airport, and I love that it got to be part of the ceremony background, just like my home city is still a part of me. Ever since I landed in Canada, this country has brought me numerous opportunities and challenges. It's hard to explain but, while in Canada, I find an energy within me that dares to do things I don't see myself capable of doing elsewhere. Challenges have been numerous, but I'm proud of myself for getting through it all and keep thriving. I came back to Canada looking for more stable jobs in news media and well, check out the current news or my LinkedIn profile, that is not quite the case at the moment. Canada isn't perfect, not at all, but I'm happy to be a new piece that can work towards improving its future now. Thanks to all the friends I made along the way who helped me get through it all, one way or another. My first action as a Canadian? Eating my first donair 🌯 For those not in Halifax, donairs are the local comfort food. For reference, you can compare them to a döner kabab or shawarma. I never had one before so, a while ago, I decided it will be my first meal as a Canadian, officially. Despite being a picky eater, I liked it more than I thought.

Benvinguts! If standing in line at 4 in the morning to secure my work visas in Germany was any indication, I imagine this was a helluva process.
