Wonderful to see Virgin Atlantic update its gender identity policy to let cabin crew, pilots and ground teams choose which Vivienne Westwood uniform they wear, so everyone can feel like themselves at work. Brilliant work: https://virg.in/o9G8 #VirginFamily
It would actually be quite simple: Men are men & women are women! - Girls are girls & boys are boys! Just imagine yourself as a father or grandmother coming to the labour room: they always ask: is it a BOY or a GIRL?? Honestly, what else would you expect? And even for a GENDER REVEAL, what are the options?? - sorry guys, but PINK and blue are already taken 😂☹️🤔
To the critics - stop worrying about how other people live, work or dress. The world - and our workplace - would be a much better and happier place if we all showed up with tolerance and understanding. Happy people are generally also more productive too. The only place for being judgemental is for people being judgemental.
That is not a good policy
Some of the comments here are concerning. I think this is a bold, inclusive and empowering move, Virgin Atlantic. Cabin Crew, are known for their polished appearance and uniform. Men in trousers, women in skirts. It wasn't a choice; it was policy. This new inclusive policy allows cabin crew to feel empowered to make their own choice of what makes them happy, and people who fly with Virgin will embrace it., Those who don't embrace fly with someone else.
Brilliant in terms of breaking the barriers, yet it can be a bit confusing for specific job roles. (Imagine the Scenario) One of the Stewards/male staff dressed in a female uniform with their back towards you at one of the touchpoints in a flight or airport, and as you reach out to them, how will you address them - Sir or Mam? (Remember, you can't see their face, nor can you tap them on their shoulders for their attention!) Isn't that confusing? Individuals can have any orientation they wish (that's an individual choice), but on a client-facing job, why is it important to tell the world? You can be who you want to be, but it may be a bit overboard on a job. Functionally it may be challenging for the clients and customers. PS: Folks saying" Excuse ME" is an option; for them, please imagine this person (customer) being special needs and may not have advanced voice motor capabilities. It is easier for them to identify based on the uniform of the male. Females wearing pants is not a problem, as that's well understood (we are living in the 21st century).
Ridiculous
Congratulations Virgin Atlantic 👏🏼 Personal I identify as a woman, but feeling that everyone should be able to be who they are and not be hidden away anymore. There is an exceptionally diverse talent pool out there that has yet to be discovered due to the fear of being accepted for who they are and allowing their talents to shine.
Too many people in the comments seem worried a man or non-binary person might wear a skirt on their flight. Listen, if you don’t want to see that, then it just helps open up more seats on these flights for those of us who realize gender has no impact on how a person performs duties as part of the flight crew. 🤷🏻♀️ Someone male-identifying can serve me a drink in full makeup and a skirt and it’ll taste the same as if anyone else served it. A woman can fly the plane in pants and we’ll still arrive the same. A non-binary person can ask me to buckle my seat belt and the buckle doesn’t operate differently. 🤷🏻♀️ So don’t worry about it.
This update is against travelers' rights and mental health. Your team choosing their gender identity via uniform will disrupt the state of mind of travelers creating confusion and mental stress at first glance. This is to show that with this update you are no longer customers oriented rather more concerned with your looks and your personal satisfaction. Richard Branson Virgin Atlantic Virgin
