Chinese giant set to build UK’s biggest gigafactory - EVE Energy pledges £1.2bn to create battery plant at Coventry airport.🔋 Power and Planning Permission - just a couple of the fundamentals in getting a Gigafactory up and running... In that regard, The Sunday Times story I've just read in regards to The West Midlands Gigafactory & EVE Energy makes for VERY interesting reading - the following points in particular! 'Tata Group is to build a battery factory in Somerset to power JLR vehicles, though planning permission has yet to be granted' "The West Midlands gigafactory already has planning permission' 'Sources familiar with the situation said that a separate deal had been struck between the joint venture and National Grid to ensure power provision.' You might recall I've had a few close encounters of the battery kind in regard to the site that's conveniently adjacent to UKBIC AND JLR - I'll pop a few of those in the comment section to give you some flavour of the journey this proposition has been on. And, as critical minerals and the required supply chains are also fundamentals, I'll be with a few notable people in London tomorrow evening with news on that too - so watch this space! And YES - this is a story about collaboration with Chinese enterprise NOT confrontation. These are the highlights I picked out: 1️⃣ Established battery manufacturer ‘EVE Energy, the world’s largest manufacturer of Tesla-like cylindrical car batteries’ 2️⃣ Existing European supply contracts ‘EVE signed a contract 18 months ago to supply BMW with large cylindrical batteries for its electric cars in Europe. The Guangdong-headquartered company began construction of its first gigafactory in Europe in Debrecen, Hungary, in November.’ 3️⃣ Engaged with a UK customer(s) ‘It is understood that EVE has a carmaking customer or customers lined up to take its UK-made batteries. The name of the manufacturer was this weekend being kept under wraps. Hi EV addicts, in a remarkable development for the electric vehicle (EV) industry, the United States is rapidly becoming a global hub for EV production. Data from the Global EV Outlook 2023 by the IEA highlights the substantial investments flowing into gigafactories following the implementation of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). >> Tesla, a prominent player in this transformation, is relocating its Berlin-based lithium-ion battery gigafactory to Texas, collaborating with China's CATL. This shift is poised to boost battery production and drive the manufacturing of next-generation EVs in Mexico. >> Ford is also making significant strides, also partnering with CATL for a new battery plant in Michigan. The company aims to increase its EV production sixfold by the end of 2023, reaching 600,000 electric vehicles annually by 2023 and scaling up to 2 million by 2026. >> BMW is expanding EV manufacturing in South Carolina, and Volkswagen chose Canada for its first battery plant outside Europe, starting operations in 2027. These investments are set to drive substantial growth in the EV sector from 2024 onwards as these gigafactories come online. >> This surge in gigafactory investments showcases the United States' commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy solutions. AESC's new UK gigafactory will produce enough EV batteries to power 100,000 electric vehicles each year when it is operational.
