Canadian MPS urge for Direct flights to Amritsar As the Sikh and Punjabi community has an increasing demographic dominance in Canada, the Conservative MPs have urged the country's flag carrier to establish direct flights between Canada and Amritsar. The MPs namely Tim Uppal, Jasraj Singh Hallan, Bradley Vis and Mark Strahl have sent a letter to Air Canada to start direct flights between Canada and Amritsar. They said that it can bolster tourism and empower families to stay connected. Approximately 950,000 Punjabis are living in Canada which accounts for roughly 2.6% of Canada's population (as per the 2021 census). As of now, there are no direct flights between Canada and Amritsar, making it tough for travelers to experience a hassle-free journey as they have to make multiple stops which makes their journey "lengthy and arduous".
