Eating Onion and Garlic in Kurdistan. You might be curious about why I'm discussing this topic on LinkedIn. Keep reading, and you'll find out! :-) Today, while ordering lunch at my usual spot and choosing my regular food, the person taking my order noticed I was dressed a bit formally. She asked whether I wanted my meal with or without onions. This reminded me of the cultural practice among Kurds, where it's considered disrespectful to eat onion or garlic, especially garlic, when meeting someone. If the meetup wasn't planned beforehand and you happened to consume either of them, it is customary to apologize in case you have their smell. I've encountered this situation with foreigners before, and they were confused as to why I needed to apologize for such a thing. :-) Of course, this practice doesn't apply to everyone, but it is a common display of decency in Kurdistan. #culturalawareness #culturaldifferences #businessculture
I personally detest the smell let alone interviewing someone or having a meeting which causes loosing my focus on the matter!! I do believe anyone, European or Middle eastern must not consume either if they know they are expecting meeting people.
That is why in Sanatan Culture (Hindu), Vegetarian food usually doesn't contain onion and garlic. Particular in festive foods.
This is nothing but junk food!!!!!
Onion and garlic are healthy and I really recommend eating them, but you should avoid them when you plan to meet some people, or eat them when you don't have a meeting, because some people will find the smell really annoyance. Our prophet said: "whoever eats garlic or onions, let him retire from us, or let him retire from our mosque, and sit in his house."
This is why I use daily garlic supplements tablets, it is not smelly, except for my off days:)
This is so true
