On Thursday, Muscat International Airport welcomed the inaugural flight of Pakistan's airline, AirSial. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that AirSial would operate eight scheduled flights each week, connecting Muscat to Islamabad Airport (three flights), Lahore Airport (three flights), and Sialkot Airport (two flights). In January 2023, the number of passengers arriving at Oman's airports saw a significant increase of 94% compared to the same period in 2022. Data from the National Centre for Statistics and Information revealed a year-on-year rise of 115% in the number of departing passengers in January 2023.

Pakistan’s airline, AirSial, commenced its first flight to Muscat International Airport on Thursday. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) announced that AirSial will operate a total of eight scheduled flights per week. These flights will connect Muscat to three Pakistani airports: Islamabad Airport (three flights per week), Lahore Airport (three flights per week), and Sialkot Airport (two flights per week). In January 2023, the number of passengers arriving at airports in Oman increased significantly by 94% compared to the same period in 2022. Additionally, the National Centre for Statistics and Information reported a year-on-year growth of 115% in the number of passengers departing from Oman’s airports in January 2023.

Early on Monday, Iran ended its suspension of domestic and international flights departing from Tehran. Both Imam Khomeini International Airport and Mehrabad International Airport resumed operations, as confirmed by the Civil Aviation Organisation of Iran. Flights began operating at these airports on April 15 at 6:00 am local time. Flydubai, a Dubai-based airline that regularly serves various Iranian destinations including Tehran, Bandar Abbas, Esfahan, Lar, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Tirana, also resumed its operations. A spokesperson for flydubai stated that flights are running as scheduled after the airspace reopening, and affected passengers are being contacted directly. As of April 15, there have been no flight cancellations or reroutings, although booking new tickets to several Iranian destinations might experience delays until April 17 due to flights operating at full capacity for the next two days. Emirates Airlines, which had previously adjusted some flights due to temporary airspace closures, resumed its scheduled operations to and from Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq on Sunday afternoon. Qatar Airways has also resumed its regular services to Iran, offering 20 weekly flights to Tehran, Mashhad, Shiraz, and Isfahan. Etihad Airways, preparing to resume scheduled passenger and cargo services between Abu Dhabi and Amman, as well as Beirut starting from Monday, emphasized safety as its utmost priority. The airline does not operate direct flights to Iran. Latest on International Trade Magazine: Qatar Airways Cargo's summer destinations Daily flights to Bahrain started on 25 May, providing cargo customers with 11 tonnes of cargo space on the A320 passenger flights each week, each way. In addition, Qatar Airways Cargo has also expanded its network in the Middle East, effective May. The airline introduced two Boeing 777 freighters to Dammam, bringing the weekly tonnage to 350 tonnes each way. A new freighter frequency was also introduced to Riyadh, bringing the total frequencies to five Boeing 777 freighters each week on top of the quadruple daily passenger flights, providing over 850 tonnes of cargo capacity each way to and from Riyadh. Mr. Guillaume Halleux, Chief Officer Cargo at Qatar Airways said, “Customer-centricity has always been at the core of our business. Through such expansions, reintroductions and capacity increases via our Next Generation strategy and VISION 2027, we are bringing enhancements to our services and operations globally. In this edition, let's take a look at the timeline of the inception of GCC flag carriers. Saudia (SV), the national carrier of Saudi Arabia, was established in 1945 as Saudi Arabian Airlines. Emirates (EK), based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was founded in 1985. Etihad Airways (EY), the second flag carrier of the United Arab Emirates, was established in 2003 with its hub in Abu Dhabi. Qatar Airways (QR) based in Doha, Qatar, was founded in 1993 and commenced operations in 1994. Gulf Air (GF), the national carrier of Bahrain, has a history dating back to 1950. Originally established as Gulf Aviation Company, it provided air travel services in the region. In 1973, it transformed into Gulf Air and became the flag carrier of Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and the UAE. Oman Air (WY) was founded in 1993 and became the national carrier of Oman with Muscat International Airport as its hub. Hamad International Airport records over 33.5% increase in passenger traffic in H1-2023 The airport is on track to reach the highest number of annual passengers Doha’s Hamad International Airport (DOH) continues its impressive growth in passenger traffic as it records promising numbers in the first half of 2023. The award-winning airport has witnessed an influx of travelers flying to and from Doha with a recorded 33.5% increase in passenger traffic and 18.1% increase in aircraft movements from the same period last year, according to a recent press communique. The airport saw a total of 20,775,087 passengers during the first half of 2023–moving 10,315,695 passengers in the first quarter of the year and a further 10,459,392 in the second quarter.
