Frustrations on a Friday! - With a long weekend coming up for some, does this resonate? This is one of my favourite TypeCoach, LLC cartoons, bringing fun to learning about personality type to help it 'stick'. Looks like this pair have found a solution that works for them!

Frustrations on a Friday ................. can you spot him? Not everyone notices typos and missing words in an important report. Whilst some can be picked up using spelling checkers etc., if they are not, it can cause frustration for those who are detail oriented when they are reading it. I know I have been distracted in the past from a great big picture message as I was frustrated and focused in on the sentences that didn't make sense, were just too long or had mistakes in them. Top tip: Use the strengths of your colleagues! If you are preparing an important piece of work and are great at the big picture, but less likely to spot a typo, use the tools available to you. Then give it to a colleague you know is more detail orientated, to pick up the final issues for readability, context, etc.. That way, the person reading it will be able to see the overall messages, not get bogged down and frustrated by the details.

Things should never stop there when you discover your personality type. After all, it's just the start of an exciting journey to better self-awareness and an appreciation of differences in others. Frustrations on a Friday - Are they daydreaming?!........... Some people are happy to talk their thoughts through as they evolve, it actually helps them think! Others however prefer to reflect on a response before they offer it, but when this happens in a meeting, it can be perceived as them not being engaged. So here are 2 top tips: Give those who prefer to offer their final answer an opportunity to reflect before speaking, rather than putting them on the spot. Let everyone else answer and then ask if they have anything to add. or Ask them to have a think about the question a day or two before the meeting so they can mull it over and have an answer ready on the day. Frustrations on a Friday continues! If it resonates, have you been the one with the finger on the trapdoor button, or the one with the video/meme to share?! Whenever new people start working together there can be bumps in the road. Here's a classic example which can be avoided if team members understand each other better. Those with a preference for living planned and structured lives, do their best work when finishing ahead of deadlines. They can be stressed and be pretty intense when up against a tight deadline, especially if having to make last minute changes, so interruptions can be really frustrating. Compared to this, those with a preference for living their lives in a more spontaneous and flexible way, often combine work and play, appearing much more relaxed when up against it, in fact. it's when they do their best work! Frustrations on a Friday - Was it something we said?! Home from Uni, my son is surrounded by people all day in his holiday job. So when he comes back home, he's not really up for chatting with the rest of us straight away. Why? Because as an Introvert, his energy levels are drained and he needs to recharge before he's ready to come downstairs. So he’s doing what’s right for him (helped by his self-awareness) and is getting some well needed alone time. The rest of us are Extraverts, we gain energy from being around others so don't need that alone time in the same way. However I’m glad we can appreciate this difference, so we don’t take it too personally when he doesn’t want to spend time with us when he gets in. Anyone else recognise this scenario with friends or family?
