Trusted Cyber Risk Advisor | Data-Driven Insight Drives Action | Continuous Controls Monitoring (CCM) - providing teams with actionable insights to make risk-informed decisions
On the eve of another Guiness 6 nations and having been explaining rugby to Andrew Wilcox, it's had me thinking of how cybersecurity and rugby share many similarities in the way they approach protecting their valuable assets. Just as a rugby team works together to protect the ball (their valuable asset) and prevent the opposition from attacking and scoring, businesses and security teams must work together to prevent cyber attacks and protect their digital assets. In rugby, each player has a specific role and responsibility, just as in cybersecurity, each team member has a specific job to protect against cyber threats. The forwards, are responsible for the rough and physical defence, just as firewalls and antivirus software are responsible for protecting against external threats. Meanwhile, the backs are responsible for the speed and agility of the team, similar to how network security and intrusion detection systems work together to quickly detect and respond to any potential breaches. Similarly, in both rugby and cybersecurity, preparation and training are crucial. Rugby teams practice drills to perfect their moves and defence strategies, and in cybersecurity, regular security awareness training and threat simulations help employees stay vigilant and prepared for potential threats. Just like in rugby, cyber attacks can come from unexpected places and catch even the best teams off guard. In both cases, having a solid defence and quick response plan in place is key to minimise damage and get back in the game. In conclusion, the principles of teamwork, preparation, and defence are fundamental to success in both rugby and cybersecurity. It's important all players are in the right positions at the right time providing coverage and avoiding gaps and not making it easy for the attackers by sticking to the game plan and doing the job they were intended for. Working together and being proactive, organisations and security teams can protect their valuable assets and stay one step ahead of the opposition. Any other similarities you see? #team #cybersecurity #cyberattack #cyberdefence #CISO #rugby #6nations #team #Wales

🏉🔐 The Rugby World Cup 2023 showdown between South Africa 🇿🇦 and France 🇫🇷 - a thrilling display of strength, strategy, and teamwork! 🌍🏆 As we cheer for our favorite teams on the field, it's a reminder that the world of cybersecurity shares some striking similarities with this epic clash. 💻🛡️ 🔒 1. Defense is Key: Just as rugby teams rely on a strong defense, in the digital world, a robust cybersecurity defense is essential to safeguard against cyber threats. Keep your systems and data secure! 🤝 2. Teamwork Matters: The best rugby teams win through collaboration and coordination. Similarly, cybersecurity is a collective effort. Every individual in your organization plays a part in defending against cyberattacks. 🌐 3. Global Reach: The Rugby World Cup unites nations in a spirit of competition and camaraderie. In the same way, the need for global cooperation in tackling cyber threats is crucial. Cybersecurity knows no borders. 🌟 4. Strategy Wins: Just as rugby teams strategize to outmaneuver their opponents, cybersecurity requires careful planning and proactive measures. Stay one step ahead of potential threats. 🛡️ 5. Never Let Your Guard Down: In both rugby and cybersecurity, complacency can be costly. Stay alert, stay secure. Cyber threats can happen when you least expect them. As we celebrate this monumental rugby clash, let's also champion the spirit of teamwork and preparedness in the world of cybersecurity. 🙌 What cybersecurity lessons do you think we can draw from sports? I think a lot of people would agree across many industry verticals that 2023 has been a tough year so far. The defining attribute may be our resilience, our ability to tough it out. In a tough market you need to remain focused on your mission but adaptable to your environment. Today I will be hosting my cybersecurity networking event at the world famous Roger Gracie Academy in central London. The idea, like many networking events, is to get people together to meet and discuss issues, get to know each other etc. The difference here, is that we are bonding via the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. There couldn’t be a better culture than this, that truly forges the strongest relationships built around trust, friendship, skill development and respect. #cybersecurity #brazilianjiujitsu #networking #intaso

Did you know that Europe’s Cybersecurity Agency (ENISA) estimates there will be a shortage of around 880,000 cybersecurity professionals by 2025? As our world becomes more digital, the risks become digital as well. There are many initiatives across Europe that encourage people from different backgrounds to get into the field. One of our favorite initiatives is the European Cybersecurity Challenge, aptly nicknamed Europe’s Cyber Olympics👩💻🛡️ The ECSC attracts over 30,000 participants seeking to qualify for their national teams across 35 European countries. The selected National teams will compete to solve cyber-challenges and earn points to win the tournament. This year’s challenge will take place at the “Viking ship” Olympic stadium in Hamar, Norway – a very fitting venue. We feel lucky at Capgemini to sponsor the ECSC this year and work closely with the organizers, NTNU, to plan an unforgettable and exciting event. The ECSC is a great opportunity to create an accelerator for Europe’s top cybersecurity talent. This year, we aim to lay the foundations for the ECSC to become a spectator sport, similar to the incredibly popular E-Sports competitions. The ECSC kicks off on 24 October, so stay tuned, and hopefully see you in Hamar!
