China's Splittable Swarm Drones: Inspired by Nature, Designed for War!! A recent article published by Interesting Engineering and written by Christopher McFadden highlights a groundbreaking development in Chinese drone technology: the splittable drone. Inspired by the twirling flight of a maple seed, this innovative design promises to revolutionize drone warfare with its swarming capabilities. This #swarm capability seems similar to those being pursued by the United States, under Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks' #replicator initiative. Professor Shi Zhiwei of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautica led the research team. Their biggest challenge? Overcoming the efficiency drawbacks of combining traditional drones. Shi's team achieved this by mimicking the maple seed's structure, resulting in subunits with a single blade that can hover and maneuver independently. The key advantage? These modular drones can split mid-air, transforming into a swarm that can overwhelm enemy air defenses. The researchers envision soldiers carrying numerous drone modules, enabling them to assemble various configurations for diverse missions. This adaptability, coupled with the swarming tactic, could give China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) a significant tactical edge. The article cites the peer-reviewed paper published in Acta Aeronautica et Astronautica Sinica, detailing the team's success in achieving flight efficiency for both the combined and separated states of the drone. This innovation represents a significant leap in drone technology, with potential implications for the future of warfare. My final question, these drones can split on command, but can they reassemble mid-air? That would be huge! #China #drones #militarytechnology #swarms #innovation #dronetechnology #dronetech #ActaAeronauticaetAstronauticaSinica Image Credit: South China Morning Press

We were honored to attend a meeting with Ofir Akunis, Israeli Minister of Science and Technology. In attendance were representatives from the CAAI - Civil Aviation Authority of Israel, Ayalon Highways, the Israel Innovation Authority רשות החדשנות, and a select group of leading companies in the Israeli drone ecosystem. The meeting was set up to discuss the status of the drone ecosystem in Israel following the CAAI’s recent decision to make UTM connection a mandatory condition for drone flights. It was an important conversation; there is currently no other country that’s gone as far in building infrastructure dedicated to managing uncrewed air traffic, and as Akunis pointed out, this means that Israel has no examples to learn from. It was agreed that the move wouldn’t have been possible without the Israel National Drone Initiative enabling the thorough field-testing of UTM systems and other supporting technologies. And now that uncrewed aircraft are taking on roles with first responders, municipalities and security teams nationwide, a scalable UTM system has never been more important. Ido Yahalomi gave a presentation outlining the role of High Lander in this pioneering landscape - as the first recipient of an air traffic management unit license, High Lander has taken on an unprecedented responsibility. Luckily, Vega UTM is proving itself up to the challenge every day. For information on how to connect to Vega and fly your drones legally, please don’t hesitate to get in touch to learn about methods of connection. #highlander #aviation #drones #vega #utm #israel #ofirakunis #shmuelzakai Ofek Cohen Ami Weisz Dror Ben-David Ofer Lapid Aviv Bar-Zohar Zvica Goltzman Meital Goren Daniella Partem Yulia Katz Eyal Zehavi Roy Degani

DSEI 2023 is quickly approaching, one of the World's largest defence and security shows. It's definitely one not to miss! Find out more about DSEI here: https://www.dsei.co.uk/ Drone Evolution will be exhibiting on Steatites stand H2-417, showcasing our new Sentinel tethered drone system. The Sentinel is designed to provide outstanding performance of security, performance, and unlimited flight time for a wide range of situations. Through tethering, the limitations of traditional battery-powered flights are eliminated. With conventional drones, flight time is restricted, often leaving critical areas unmonitored. However, our tethering technology ensures uninterrupted and continuous operation, enabling extended flights that go beyond the capabilities of standard UAVs. Interested to know more?
